“Shame.”
“Are you going to be trouble all our lives?” I bite back a smile as she nods.
“For as long as you’ll have me.”
“So, that’s a yes?”
“Yes. But you know, you’re my main man.”
That I do.“It’s obvious in the way you ogle me. You can’t keep your eyes off my body. It’s been that way since we first met.”
“What? No way.”
“Yes way.”
“Fine. What can I say? I’m attracted to the bad boy types and I assumed, when I first saw you, that you were one of them.”
She waves her hands at my tattoos as though that proves her point, and I bark out a laugh. “I sure had you fooled. Never judge a book by its cover.”
“I’m glad I was wrong. Because you, Reed Antony Coombs, are perfect exactly as you are.”
My heart jolts and I hate that I have to leave, but we have a lifetime of these moments ahead of us. With my palms on the bed, I lean forward and press a chaste kiss to her lips before jumping up. “I love you and I wish I could stay—”
“No, you have to go. That’s why I’m here.”
A thought hits me and I panic, not wanting her to be alone. “Are you here with someone? I don’t have a ticket for you and—”
“I’m here with Keeley and Lainey. Keeley has a pass waiting for me.”
“Good.” I rush out a relieved sigh. “I better get ready.”
“And you better win. Otherwise, I wasted my time.”
“Hayls, I just gave you the best orgasm of your life. No time was wasted.”
“Valid point. But I still want you to win.”
CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE
Hayley
Lainey jumps into the air as Thomas launches the ball to Zane. With seconds to go, we’ve already won the game, but if we secure a touchdown before the whistle, I’m told it’ll be a record win. At least where the Storm is concerned.
I hold my breath as Zane runs toward the end zone, dodging a strike from the opposition's defense, his eyes on the prize as Luke takes the competition down.
Time ticks by, and just when I think their tackle is going to get him, Zane leaps into the air, slamming the ball down over the line, his body crashing to the ground.
And the Storm fans go wild. What a way to start the season.
“They did it, Hayley,” Lainey screams, her eyes a little watery. “They did it.”
“You’re thinking about Thomas’s retirement, aren’t you?”
“Yeah. It’s all he’s ever known. I’m scared he’ll be lost without it.”
“He’s got you.”
“That’s true, and we’re getting our new puppy this month, so that’ll keep us busy.”
