Krin surprised me with his response. “Time heals many things, my K’sha. Human females are strong. They will get through this.”

I sighed. “I hope so.”

ALARA

As the meeting concluded, King Trex stood at the head of the table in the meeting room. Positioned right behind him, Orin served as his personal security detail.

Royal advisors, elder council members, Rauki, and one more Thrala warrior encircled the table.

The meeting to welcome our newest allies, the Thrala, had gone well.

With the Ixul now part of the Alliance and the Krilex leaving Alaran space, there was a sense of hope for peace and calm to return.

Riley and I, along with the rest of our crew, we’re going to stay on the planet until a new patrol vessel was prepared for me to command.

The Thrala kept their promise and delivered the remnants of the Chetok to our space dock above the planet.

The mechanics assured us that they would incorporate as many components as possible from the Chetok into a new top of the line Protectorate patrol ship.

It would be the first ship of its kind, using Thrala weapons and technology. They’d promised to help the Empire become stronger.

“I wish to thank our new allies, the Thrala, for joining us and helping to deal with the Voletti,” said Trex, with his head held high as he addressed Rauki.

In response, the Thrala leader bowed his head respectfully.

“We will eradicate all traces of the Voletti from your star system. Our technology makes it simple to detect them. This time, they will not get away from us. While we are in Alaran space, we are willing to offer any assistance you may be need.”

Trex’s head bobbed up and down to show agreement. “Your sharing of technology is unexpected, but greatly appreciated. It will be good to not have the Voletti to worry about any longer.”

King Trex turned his attention to me. “The addition of the Ixul to our alliance means that we have more resources to safeguard planets on the fringe of Alaran territory. It looks like good news all round. Especially since you say the Krilex are leaving Alaran space?”

“They claim to be. Though there are privately owned ships that may remain to pillage whatever they can. We will need to remain vigilant on our patrols.”

“Agreed,” said Trex. “There have been no additional reports of sightings of their ships. Things seem to be returning more or less to normal.”

Trex scratched his chin.

“Now, let’s discuss the increasing number of human females arriving on Alara. Many do not wish to leave now that they are doing better. Those who wanted to be returned to a colony have been taken by available Protectorate ships.”

“Are there any plans for the new residents?” I asked, wondering where he was going with this.

“Some are open to finding their mates, if they can. Males all over Alara are coming here in droves, hoping to find their K’sha. We have arranged accommodations for all the females, but we need to come up with a plan that will not overwhelm them with suitors.”

“What are you suggesting?” I asked, shrugging.

Trex pursed his lips before responding.

“While Riley is here, I would like her to assist. She would be teaming up with Grace to inform other human females about what they can anticipate before meeting Alaran males. The new residents, who have never left their colony, are completely unaware of our customs.”

A proud smile curved my lips. Riley was always ready and willing to help anyone who needed it.

“Have you asked my mate what her thoughts are on the matter?”

Trex nodded. “I think Grace is having a conversation with her at this moment.”
