“Yeah.”

A few minutes later, Kerr arrived, and I headed over to meet up with Willow and Zed. Both of whom were pissed I hadn't called them right away.

“You are Alpha,” Willow snapped at me. “She shouldn't be getting a report from Kerr about this!”

I snapped, “My wife was hurt, and I needed to be with her! Kerr is beta and perfectly capable of providing you with information! It's why he's beta!”

Willow seemed shocked at my sudden outburst, her lips forming a line.

Zed sighed. “What happened? Kerr didn't have much information to give us, and we were confused.”

I gave a quick explanation of what happened and how I took Nina to the healer right away. I was trying to remain calm even though so many emotions were going through me.

“So it came and it disappeared?”

I nodded. “Like thin air.”

“This is concerning, and it's going deeper into town now. You guys weren't anywhere near the woods.”

“Nope, we weren't.”

“Did anything else happen?”

I shook my head. “No. It all happened so quickly.” I thought it over and over, trying to see if I missed anything.

“Why aren't you guys looking into the real issue here?” I asked, tapping my hand on the table. “The child that we know died.”

They both fell quiet, and I scowled. “You guys aren't telling us something, and it's pissing me off.”

Willow narrowed her eyes. “You know the duties and sacrifices you make as an Alpha.”

“I do, but clearly, whatever happened is coming back. You all know that something happened in the past, and it's got to do with a child.”

“That's enough,” Willow grumbled. “That isn't the issue.”

“It is! It's the entire issue! It's why this person is so angry! If we could figure out what's pissed him off so much, it would explain all of this.”

“It wouldn't,” Zed said softly. “Do what you told, Frank. Don't poke your head into places it shouldn't be. Or you'll regret it.”

It was a threat, and I leaned back. I curled my hands up. “My wife might lose our child because of this. Jay and Henrik have both been attacked, and their wives as well. You are hiding something, and it's coming down on us. Don't tell me to sit idlywhile our entire world, our packs, and communities take the hit. None of us will stand for it.”

I pulled myself up. “You either are with us or against us in this. I'm tired of being brushed aside when I bring this up.”

They remained quiet, and I got my answer. “I hope whatever hole you guys have all buried is worth it.”

I left the meeting feeling more pissed off than I was before. I arrived back at the house, and Nina was asleep. Kerr was sitting at the foot of the stairs, his back pressed against the wall, and he sat there in the hallway light. He looked tired as he looked at me when I came up the stairs.

“She's asleep?” I asked softly, glancing at Nina. She clutched my pillow tightly, and I could see she was exhausted. She must have stayed awake until her body couldn't anymore. The room was lit by a dim light, and the lamp was turned on next to her.

“She fell asleep about twenty minutes ago.” Kerr pulled himself up and stretched. “She was really holding out until you got home, but it finally hit her. If everything is good. I'm going home now.”

“Thank you, it means a lot.”

Kerr offered me a smile. “It's rough being Alpha.” He patted my shoulder. “But you do good.”

“Thank you for handling everything else as well. Her party, this situation. You did well.”

Kerr looked at me, shocked, and smirked. “Wow, I never thought it would happen, but she softened you. Are you sure she's not a witch because only magic would make that possible?”
