“Yeah, and then I got married.” Jay stuffed his hands into his pockets. “But if you don't open your eyes and try to see what'sin front of you, Frank, you're going to screw up something that is good for your pack.”
“I always do what's best for my pack,” I growled, warning him that he was walking on thin ice. “And I have been doing this a lot longer than you have. Don't forget who guided you when you stepped into your role.”
“I also remember how many humans are in your pack, and I don't want Nina to be mistreated. Sam worries about that, and I'm voicing my concern for her.”
“You don't think I'll treat her right?”
He shook his head. “I think you might be blind because of your hatred towards humans.” He shrugged. “I figured I should be the one to tell you rather than Henrik. Or would you prefer him to chat with you?”
Henrik and I had always butted heads on our views of humans. The last thing we needed today was for us to have a yelling match. Jay was the calmer of the two when you brought up the topic.
Jay placed a hand on my shoulder. “You're getting married. Buck up. Otherwise, Maddox might take your place.”
I snorted, glancing at the guys. They were chatting as they worked on their beers. I took a deep breath and straightened my shoulders. I could do this. After all, this was for my pack.
Twenty minutes later, I stood at the altar. I was a little surprised at how many people had turned up for the event. The aisles were filled with people from all our packs. I hadn't expected anyone to really come, but I knew that it was because I was an Alpha.
“Maybe smile,” Maddox said, elbowing me in the side. “You look like you're at a funeral.”
“Aren't I?”
“Just the end of your dating history,” Aaron joked. “Unless you guys decide you want to have an open marriage.”
I threw a glare at Aaron. “Really?”
Aaron smirked. “What?”
Before anyone could say anything else, the music changed, and the doors at the end of the hall opened. Sam came walking down, being the first bridesmaid. She beamed with happiness as she walked, and I watched as Jay's eyes stayed glued to her the entire time.
Katie came down the hallway next, and Henrik watched her. I could see both of them clearly loved their wives, and my stomach twisted up.
I didn't feel the same; if anything, I knew that Nina would change everything for me. My life wasn't going to be the same, and everything might even become harder.
I sighed, ready to get this over with. I just wanted to get back to the pack and get started on all the problems I was having. This was just taking up my time.
I watched as Nina stepped into view, and my breath got caught in my chest. My eyes widened as she stood in the doorway. Her black hair was pulled up in a fancy bun with a few stray hairs framing her face. She was wearing a long, tight white dress made of lace. It hugged her body, showing off her curvy body. She looked stunning, like a model straight out of a catalog. The veil fell over her face, but I could still see what was underneath.
I swallowed, absolutely lost for words. I had seen Nina a few times, but never like this. Never so…beautiful.
My wolf growled internally, and an ache hit me like a train. I suddenly wanted her badly, a pain I'd never felt before. I tried to stuff it down, rolling my shoulders back. My wolf growled angrily at me, demanding I move, but I refused.
She stood there for a moment before her eyes came up to me. Our eyes locked for a split second before she looked down at her bouquet of lilies. I stared as she walked down the aisle towards us. Each step made my heart race faster.
The closer she got, the more I felt a tug to be near her. My wolf growled loudly in my ear. I curled my hands into fists, forcing the emotion down.
“Enough,”I growled at myself.
“Do not deny me her,”my wolf snapped back.
Nina paused as she got to the altar. She stopped in front of me and gave me a nervous smile. I tried to give one in return, but I knew it didn't happen. I just stared at her. So many emotions filled my head that I couldn't even think straight. Nina was stunning and I couldn’t stop staring at her.
“Shall we begin?” the priest asked, looking between us.
I nodded.
“We are all gathered here today to…”
I stared at Nina, taking in her black eyes. They looked hurt as she tightened her hold on her flowers. She was wearing some makeup, and it gave her a stunning look. Her lips even had a deep red on them, making them pop.
