“Not the slightest clue,” she replies.
Chapter Thirty-Three
The cars spin around at the same time my phone rings, Louie’s name flashing on the screen. “What’s happening?” I ask him.
“The girls are on their way to E’s compound. The penthouse was hit, but they’re safe. Unharmed,” he says.
My heart speeds up.The penthouse was hit.All I hear is that the penthouse was hit. The fucking penthouse where I left my wife and child.
“Carlo, they are safe. Lailani got them out,” he says.
“Lailani? What the fuck? Where are the soldiers?”
“Hit,” he says simply.Deadis what he means.
“What about Lailani?”Thiscomes from Sammie.
“She’s taking the girls to E’s compound,” I repeat before putting the call on speaker.
“How the fuck does she know about E’s compound?” he grits out.
“No idea. We can deal with that later,” Louie says through the phone. “We’ll be there in forty.”
“I need to call my wife,” I tell him. “And I need to fucking kill her father.”
“That we do,” Louie agrees.
I cut the call and immediately dial Antonia’s number. “Carlo, we’re okay,” she says, sounding out of breath.
“Jazzy?” I ask.
“Fine, didn’t see a thing.”
“I’m meeting you there.”
“Okay,” Antonia says before Jazzy comes over the line.
“Daddy?”
“Hey, princess, how are you doing?” I breathe out a sigh of relief as soon as I hear her voice.
“We’re going to Tío E’s house and Lailani says he has a surprise for me.” She sounds excited.
“A surprise, huh? Wonder what it is,” I say. “I’m going to meet you there, okay?”
“Okay. I can share my surprise with you,” she tells me.
“I’d love that,” I reply.
Sammie is next to me, typing away on his phone when I end the call with my girls.
“What’s going on?” I ask him.
“Nothing,” he grunts.
“Sure.” I smirk. My money is on it having something to do with a certain female employee.
My mind goes back to what Louie said.Lailani got the girls out.How would my on-call babysitter find her way past a bunch of armed men? Who the fuck is the woman who’s been looking after my daughter?
