“There is nothing mediocre about you and I’d be glad to tell your dad that.”

“Well thank you for that but honestly, I’d hate for you to have to meet my dad. I know you wouldn’t like him.”

“From all that you’ve said, I probably wouldn’t.”

“I am so stuffed; you are such a good cook. Let’s go do your dishes.”

“No way, I’m too tired and you’re a guest so you don’t do dishes.”

“Fine, then if you have a set of sheets or some blankets, let me make up my bed on the couch because I think I could fall asleep in about two seconds.”

She was puzzled when Boone started shaking his head.

“What?”

“You aren’t sleeping on the couch. I may be a guy and a bachelor but my mama raised me better than that. Come with me.”

He got up from the table, left his dishes sit and walked toward the stair case. He turned and raised a brow when she didn’t immediately follow.

“Come on, let’s go.” He ascended the first step slowly to make sure she was coming up the stairs behind him. When he got to his bedroom door she started shaking her head.

“No way, I am not taking your room. You need sleep just as much as me.”

“We aren’t arguing about this. The bed is yours.”

“Nope, I won’t do it.”

“You’re stubborn.”

“Yep.”

“Well I am just as stubborn as you so I’ll sleep on the floor that way we’ll both still be in the room but you are sleeping in the bed.”

“How about this, I’ll sleep in the bed, but only if you do too.” Those last few words slipped out of her mouth so fast she was even shocked. Apparently, he was too because his eye brows lifted high, she almost laughed at him.

“If you’re uncomfortable, we’ll make a pillow wall between us but we both need sleep and we’re both adults so we should be just fine.”

Kelsey went right over to the bed and pulled the comforter half way down. Then she grabbed the extra pillows and positioned them in a line right down the center of the bed. She could tell which side had been worn down more and assumed that was his side so she climbed in on the other, pulled the comforter back up with her as she laid down on the pillow. Then she looked at him.

“Can you turn the light off before you climb into bed?”

Chapter Eight

Who is this woman and where has she been all my life?Boone watched in shock as she took over the sleeping situation and didn’t take no for an answer. Looked like he didn’t have much of a choice. And it didn’t bother him in the slightest. He was afraid if he laid on the floor now, she’d wrestle with him until he was in the bed. He’d had women try to get him in bed but this was a whole new tactic. Truthfully, it was a tactic he liked, a lot. This was a woman he liked a lot too. That was a huge shock to him because he’d never wanted this, to have someone intimately close making decisions and taking over his feelings, changing his emotions.

He told her he’d be right back to which she answered that he better be, and he escaped to the bathroom to brush. Then he shut off the bedroom light, leaving a night light in the hallway shining a small pathway to the bed.

“Are you sure about this Kelsey?”

“Boone, it’ll be fine, get in bed.”

They were both so tired that they’d probably just fall asleep anyway so he wasn’t sure what he was worried about. It wasn’t like she was after sex. She probably hadn’t had a single thought about it. Unfortunately, he couldn’t say the same. After the way she’d kissed him back earlier, he couldn’t help but imagine how it would be with her.

As his feet slid toward the end of the bed, they touched hers and he jumped a little. Didn’t mean to but he didn’t expect to feel her skin either. Got his mind to racing. He probably should have considered sleeping on top of the covers instead but it was too late for that.

“I’m sorry, are my feet cold?” He felt her move them over more on her side.

“No, it’s fine, I can warm them for you if you want.” Without thinking, he rolled to his side and his feet went looking for hers and wrapped around them. He’d always slept like a furnace, not usually needing the comforter that he always covered up with. He had more than enough body heat to keep them both warm all night long.
