“I know that you’re a competitor, and you’re used to pushing your body to the absolute limit, but it scares me to think that if I hadn’t shown up when I did, you would have gotten on the back of a horse hurt like this.”

A chuckle broke free from my chest. “Don’t worry, darlin’. If there’s anyone who can match my level of stubbornness, it’s Layla. After the last time I ignored her when she demanded I withdraw from competition, I wouldn’t put it past her to lock me inside this room to stop me.”

“Do you know what she said to me when I told her to pull you?”

My head turned to the side so I could see her pretty face. Fuck, almost three months apart between the time I hit the road in March and when school let out for the summer in June was too damn long.

“What’s that?”

A smile tugged up the corners of her lips. “That she did it yesterday.”

“’Course she did.” I barely managed to keep from rolling my eyes.

“You gonna tell me what happened?” Her palm skated over the stubble lining my jaw.

I grunted. “Horse threw me.”

“Well, color me shocked. A bronc rider losing his seat? Will wonders never cease?” Though she was sweet as sugar ninety percent of the time, every once in a while, the girl I married let the ten percent of her that was spice rise to the surface.

“Yes, well. Usually that means I land my ass in the dirt, no harm, no foul. But caught an unlucky break and was sent sideways into the gate.”

Daisy’s sharp inhale hissed through her teeth. “Lord, Jett.”

“I’ll be right as rain in a couple of days, you’ll see.”

The resulting hum told me she wasn’t overly convinced.

“Now that you’re here, I’m already feeling so much better, baby.” I brought her hand to rest over my fly, where my cock had already begun to thicken.

“Jett,” she drew my name out in warning even as her fingers flexed around my hard length. “You need to take it easy.”

I groaned when she began to stroke me through the fabric of my jeans. “Eighty-nine days, Daze. That’s how long it’s been since the last time I was inside you. Feels like an eternity. I won’t last another day.”

Warm lips found the side of my neck. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You could never,” I rasped, my palm gripping a fistful of her ass and squeezing until she began to grind against the side of my thigh.

She shoved my shirt up my chest, gently easing my arms through the holes before removing it. Climbing off the bed, she pulled at my boots. Her brows drew down as she tugged with all her might, trying to dislodge the leather that was perfectly molded to my foot.

My heel slipped free without warning, and a squeal preceded a thud as Daisy disappeared from view.

“Daze!” I sat up to check on her, my injuries forgotten until a flash of fire seared through my side, and I clutched at it, gritting out a low curse under my breath. “Shit.”

The girl I loved was sprawled out on the floor, eyes trained on the ceiling. “It’s not the sexiest thing having to undress you like a child.”

I bit back a laugh. “Honey, I’m gonna tell you right now, you could read the telephone book to me line by line and I’d still get hard.”

“Shut up. No, you wouldn’t,” she huffed.

“Swear to God.” I made a crossing gesture over my heart.

That got the corner of her lips to twitch, and she shoved off the ground to kneel between my spread thighs. I ran a hand through her long brown hair as I stared down at her in awe, wondering how in the hell I’d managed to snag such an incredible woman for my wife. Over a year of marriage later, I still couldn’t believe she was truly mine. It felt like a dream—one I never wanted to wake up from.

“You bring your toys?”

Pink crept up her neck to settle on her cheeks. Lashes fluttering, she averted her gaze, whispering, “Yes.”

I tipped her chin up, wanting her to see the raw hunger I felt for her etched on my face. “Be a good girl and go get the one that fits around my cock.”
