“Maddox!” Dakota shouted over the music. “Your pregnant wife is getting cranky. Might be time to take her home.”

Evie stretched her torso over the back of Dakota’s seat to say to me, “I wasn’t the nicest toward the end, either. Especially once sex was taken off the table.”

I didn’t remember asking for the overshare, but I gave a polite smile and nod.

Sasha chose that moment to return from the bathroom, a bright smile on his face, oblivious to the tension settled over the group. “Who needs more drinks?”

Maddox stood, declaring, “We’re out.” Stepping toward his wife, he offered her a hand to use as leverage, helping her out of her seat.

Brows drawn down in confusion, Sasha asked, “What did I miss?”

Braxton snickered. “Oh, nothing, buddy. Just your little bathroom sexcapade throwing a grenade into Maddox’s marriage.”

“How?”

Sasha’s dark-haired teammate couldn’t contain his glee. “Guess Maddox never sealed the deal.”

My eyes found Dakota’s. “I’m sorry if what we did caused any trouble between you and your friend.”

“Eh.” Dakota lifted a shoulder. “After a good night’s sleep, she’ll be calling my phone at the ass-crack of dawn to apologize and blame the baby for taking over her brain. Maddox, on the other hand, won’t be let off the hook that easily.” Her smirk matched that of her husband. “She’s learning the hard way that marrying the guy pushing forty means she missed out on his reckless days. Sure, they still have their fun, but it’s not the same, ya know?”

I nodded in a daze, pretending like I did know when I most certainly did not.

“You, on the other hand . . .”

“Me?” My eyes widened.

“The reverse age gap you’ve got going on with Goose? That’s the way to do it.”

Tessa braced her elbows on the table. “Speaking of which. We were hoping you could settle a bet for us.”

Scanning the ladies, I found them all leaning forward, interest alight in their eyes.

Squirming in my seat, I swallowed. “Uh, sure?”

“Maybe it’s not so much a bet,” Tessa clarified. “But we can’t help but be curious either way.”

“Okay . . .” I hedged, not sure where this was headed.

“What she’s trying to say,” Dakota interjected, “is that we’ve always wondered how Goose’s energy level translates to the bedroom.”

“Excuse me?” I wasn’t sure I’d heard her correctly. Though I should have known better by now after the earlier conversation.

“Can he go all night? Like, does he ever run out of batteries?” Evie was blunt while the other two had tiptoed around the question.

“The answer is yes!” came a shout from the other end of the table.

Peals of laughter came from the ladies as I buried my face in my hands, letting out a muffled, “Oh my God.”

There wasn’t enough alcohol in this bar to get me through this night.

Ding dong.

Cannoli barked at the sound, and a smile lit up my face.
