“Holy moly! He couldn’t wait.”
“And he was awkward and cute about the whole thing. Like he was nervous or something.”
“Wow, Samantha! He likes you. Are you going to take him home with you?”
Samantha tossed her big, floppy hat at her sister. “Jenna!”
“What? He’s totally cute and he’s obviously into you.”
Samantha laughed. “I’m not having sex with him after knowing him all of one day.”
Her sister didn’t need to know she’d almost had sex with him after knowing him all of twenty minutes.
“Why not? I did it with Andrew.”
“Yeah, because you’re a shameless hussy.”
Jenna tossed the hat back. “Shut up.”
They both burst into a fit of giggles.
“Besides,” Jenna went on, taking a sip of her drink. “Andrew and I got engaged not even six weeks later. And now we’ve been together for eight years. When it’s right, it’s right. How long you’ve known someone doesn’t always mean everything. And mister hottie waiter seems right for you. What was his name again?”
“Nick.Andhe owns that restaurant.”
“What!”
“Yup.”
“He gave us free dinner too? Dang, sister. He sounds like marriage material. You should definitely sleep with him ASAP.”
“No! I have to make him wait,” Samantha insisted. “I don’t want a repeat of the Eddie nightmare.”
“Was Eddie a nightmare?”
“Yes. Eddie was a certifiable nightmare.”
Jenna scoffed. “That’s not what you said at first.”
“Well, I was wrong. And then I slept with him immediately and he showed his true douche bag colors shortly thereafter.”
“I think there was something wrong with Eddie. Like in a realistic sense,” Jenna reasoned. “What kind of twenty-eight-year-old man gets a living allowance from his parents and can’t hold down a job?”
“And sees multiple women simultaneously under the guise of being single,” Samantha added. “That’s why I need to make Nick wait. I have to make sure he’s the real deal before I go there.”
“At least Nick has a job,” Jenna offered. “And a good one at that. And he was super nice and good with the kids. He seems like a family man.”
“Yeah, but—”
“But what?”
“But why would someone who is handsome and charming and obviously successful be single? Especially at his age. He’s got to be about thirty at least. Why hasn’t someone snatched him up already?”
“Maybe he’s busy. I’m sure running a restaurant takes up a lot of time.”
“If he’s so busy that it keeps him single, why would he have time for a relationship with me?”
“Maybe he’s waiting for the right girl. And maybe you’re the right girl.”
