“No. No. No!” I grumbled, shaking my head. “I don’t want to know that shit!”

“I’m already gonna have nightmares for life.” Romeo shivered.

Thore cleared his voice and sniffed. “Dearly beloved. Here lies Beulah—”

“Uh, Thore,” Cameron interrupted, tugging on his pants. “It’s a boy raccoon.”

Sniffing, Thore started again, “Dearly beloved. Here lies Beauford...”

Chapter Twenty-Four

Georgie

I was a dead man.

Yep. There was no way around it. Josie was going to take my balls and shove them up my ass.

What the hell was I thinking, having her arrested and thrown in jail? I should have just stepped back and let her wallop Emily and gone about my day.

But did I do that?

Nope.

I had to step in and take control. I should have known there was no controlling a woman. I’d seen the drama my other brothers had gone through. It wasn’t pretty. But Josie wasn’t just any woman. She was also my best friend, and what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t try to help? I was only trying to protect her.

Running down the street, I ignored the residents, who stopped and stared, shaking their heads. From the looks and sniggers they were shooting my way, I could only guess the Rosewood Gossip Train had struck again. Nothing in this damn town was safe.

Seeing the sheriff’s station up ahead, I picked up speed. All I needed to do was explain everything to Josie. She was a levelheaded woman. She would understand. I knew it.

Marching into the sheriff’s station, the first person to greet me was Linda, the sheriff’s first line of defense, but the look she gave me didn’t bode well for my health.

“Well, lookee what the cat dragged in.” The woman glared. “Planning on digging that grave deeper, are you?”

“Is she still here?”

“Where else would she be, Doc? You had her arrested,” the woman clipped. “Go on. She and the others are waiting for you.”

“Huh?”

Instead of answering me, I clearly heard a buzz as the door to the station unlocked, allowing me entry. However, in that instant, a trickle of trepidation washed over me, and I was no longer sure I should be here. In fact, my fight-or-flight instinct kicked into overdrive, demanding I turn around and get the hell out of dodge fast.

Pushing the door open, all my club brothers greeted me as they all lined up against the wall, almost as if they were here to pay their last respects before I met my untimely end.

“Damn, brother.” Gunner chuckled. “And here I thought I stepped in shit when I claimed the sheriff’s daughter. Good luck to ya.”

Pyro just shook his head and said nothing.

Scribe slapped me on my back. “Just take it like a man.”

Frankie beamed at me. “I’ll let Granny know to bury you next to Mom and Dad.”

Enigma smirked. “Lidi’s on standby at the hospital. She’s ready for your arrival.”

Priest pushed off the wall and stepped in front of me as he made the symbol of the cross. “May God have mercy on you.”

Seeing Trip standing next to Banks, I asked, “What the hell are you doing here? I haven’t released you yet.”

The man chuckled. “Oh, I wouldn’t miss this shit for anything. Told ya you needed a wingman.”
