Me: We all know I’m the only option. I don’t like to be kept waiting.
Tossing my phone again I step into the shower. Leaning my head back I let the water pour over me, soothing my aching muscles. It seems like working out doesn’t even distract me anymore.
Cleo standing in the shower next to me, water cascading down her body. I watch a bead of water roll down her body, between her breasts.
Reaching forward I move the water from hot to cold.
“Son of a bitch.” I growl, knowing my hand won’t even be able to give me the kind of pleasure she can.
If I can’t have her, I don’t want anything at all.
I go through the motions of washing my body and hair and shut off the water as soon as the first shiver rolls through me. Stepping out I grab a warm towel off the heated towel rack.
I walk out of the bathroom and into my closet, putting on a T-shirt and a pair of sweats. Once I’m dressed, I remember I left my phone and go back for it. The screen lights up with a text from Cleo. Unlocking the screen, I pull up her text.
Princess: I miss you.
Me: I miss you too.
As I walk out of the room she texts again.
Cleo: he has to make a decision soon, right?
Me: Don’t worry princess, you’ll be where you belong soon enough.
I set the phone down on the island and move to the fridge. While I prepare dinner, I can’t help but wonder if Killian will fuck me over. I’ve never had an issue with him per se. Only who he has leading his organization in my city.
As I’m putting my dirty dishes into the dishwasher my phone rings. Grabbing it I see Cleo’s smiling face looking back at me.
“Tell me something good, princess,” I rasp as I walk into the living room. Lying down on the couch I listen to her ramble about her day. Closing my eyes, I can’t help but picture this very scene happening again but only in person. With my head in her lap as she plays with my hair.
Soon.
My eyes pop open, still a bit groggy.
Pop. Pop.
I sit straight up. I recognize that sound.
Gunshots. They are still in the distance, but if I can hear them, that means something is going down.
I grab the phone Kai gave me, pulling it to my chest as I run toward my safe room. It’s not big or fancy. Just a small room behind an old dollhouse that is secured to the walls.
Sliding inside, I close the door behind me just as I hear glass break from somewhere outside of my room.
I don’t hesitate. I flip the lock on my door.
Then I press Kai’s number, holding the phone up to my ear.
“Princess? Are you there?” His warm voice fills my ear, calming my nerves a little.
“There’s gunshots, Kai. I’m scared.”
“I know, baby. Kenji called me. I’m on my way. Where are you? Are you somewhere safe?”
I feel the tears warm my face as they fall. “I’m in my safe room. It’s behind the dollhouse in my room.”
“Good. Stay there. I’m going to get a hold of Callum and find out where the fuck he is. If he can’t come for you, I will.”
