“Of course I will. That’s a stupid fucking question,” Kai barks out.

“I didn’t ask you. I asked her.”

Kai huffs, but stays silent, waiting for my answer.

“I do. I know when I’m with him I’m the safest I can be,” I say honestly.

Callum nods, decision made. “I have something I need to do. I didn’t want to take Cleo, but I caught her eavesdropping outside her father’s office and it wasn’t safe to leave her at home. If you want, I’ll drop her with you until I’m done.”

“Princess, we are going to have a serious fucking conversation about this eavesdropping shit.” Kai groans, exasperated. “You can bring her to my penthouse. Kenji’s behind you in a black Lexus. I’ve texted him to jump in front and lead you. I’ll keep her as long as you need.”

“Haruaki, we will need to talk about this whole situation at some point. You know that right?” Callum says.

“Whatever you say, Irishman. Just bring my baby to me and I’ll keep her safe while you save the world.”

Then the line goes dead.

“He’s a charmer,” Callum mutters.

“I like him,” I say with a shrug, but when I face the window my lips curl into a smile.

I get to see my man.

What the fuck was she thinking? I want to spank her ass until it’s red, I’m so upset with her.

I already told her to stop all of that eavesdropping bullshit. It’s too dangerous. I don’t need her to put herself in danger for me.

Shaking my head, I head down to the garage to wait for them.

She must trust Callum to have answered the phone with him there. I’ll be honest, I didn’t think she would. I wasn’t even sure she would have it on her with the way Kenji said she was being dragged out of the house.

Still, I had to try. The unwavering impulse inside to make sure she was safe and unharmed consumed me until I was dialing her number.

I didn’t expect her to answer, but fuck if I wasn’t glad she did.

I don’t know what Callum is planning to do tonight, but I’m glad he was smart enough to let me protect her. She doesn’t need to be involved in anything dangerous. Especially not until she knows some self-defense.

Fuck, I’m going to need to teach her how to use some weapons so she can keep them on her at all times.

I sigh. I need to get her a gun, even if I hate them.

Such an impersonal kill to shoot someone, but it’s best for stopping an attacker from afar. I prefer her to never have to get close to an attacker.

When I hear the gates to my personal underground garage opening, I hold my breath. I let it out when I see her through the windshield.

She smiles at me and my world is right again.

Callum says something to her before stepping from the car. When he moves toward me, he holds out a hand to shake.

I do the same.

“We have some internal shit going on. I believe her father’s involved, as does she. I have a meeting with a contact in a couple of hours, but it's far outside of town. I’m not sure what time I’ll be back, but I’d appreciate it if you keep her out of sight and safe. Shane doesn’t exactly know I took her with me. When he finds out, we need him to think she was with me the entire time.”

“Anything to protect her. We will stay here until you come back. If anything is needed, I’ll send Kenji.”

“Thank you.”

I laugh. “This isn’t for you. I could give a fuck less what your problems are, but that girl right there cares, so for her I’ll pretend to.”
