His voice raises at the end, each word heard clearly. My heart hammers in my chest, but I draw closer anyway. I need to know what he’s talking about.

“I will deliver her to you as soon as you deliver your end of the deal.” He pauses. “I don’t give a fuck what Killian O’Reilly wants. She’s my daughter and I will do as I please with her. Besides, with your help, we can get rid of him. Fuck him and his politics. He’s weak.”

I gasp, slapping my hand over my mouth.

He is still planning to give me to someone.

“You let me worry about that…”

I don’t get a chance to hear the rest of his sentence. An arm wraps around me, pulling me back as a hand clamps over mine on my mouth.

I move to struggle, but then I hear his voice.

“Keep quiet. I’m taking you back to your room,” Callum hisses.

I nod so he releases his hold on me before pulling me back to my room.

As soon as the door shuts, he turns, glaring at me. “What are you thinking?”

I shrug.

He shakes his head. “That was so incredibly stupid. What if he had caught you?”

I feel the familiar burn of anger flowing through my veins. Usually, I would bite my tongue, but I don’t want to. Not anymore.

“I would have acted like the dimwitted little girl he thinks I am! Maybe he would have smacked me, but I can take a hit, Callum. What I can’t take is him scheming behind my back about my life! Not only that, but Killian’s.”

“Hush,” Callum barks, his ear pressing to the door.

After a few moments, he curses under his breath. Then he rubs his hand down his face.

“We can’t talk about this here. I have to run a job tonight, but now I don’t want to leave you here.”

“I’ll be fine. Go do whatever you need to do.”

“No. You’ll come with me.”

“Father will want to know where we are going.”

“I don’t give a fuck. Put some damn shoes on. Quick.”

Letting out an exasperated sigh, I make my way to the closet. After slipping on a pair of sandals, I grab the phone Kai gave me, then I walk toward Callum.

He grabs a jacket off a nearby chair, helping me into it. I’m not dressed for an outing. In a pair of yoga pants and a tank top, I would never normally be seen in public like this, but Callum doesn’t seem to want me to change.

He grabs my hand, pulling me out behind him. I shove my phone in my jacket pocket, watching as Callum locks my door behind us.

Then he leads us toward the front door.

I jump when I hear something crash against the wall. Callum shakes his head, moving faster as we exit.

Once outside, Neil eyes us.

“I’m not supposed to let Cliona leave the house.”

Callum pulls me up next to him. “I have orders from Killian to take her with me. Shane’s wishes are null and void.”

Neil continues to eye me, but then nods to Callum.
