“What about your dad? Did he ever get married? Have any kids?” I ask, leaning close.

“He did get married. His wife is the best and she took me in like I was her own. As for kids she couldn’t have any so it’s just me. But I was raised with my cousins.”

“So you had a good childhood.”

“I did. Better than most at least.”

“I wonder if I have any secret siblings floating around out there,” I quip, resting my chin in my hand.

“You never know. Do you know who you got your red hair from?”

“My mother.” I nod as I look at him. “Your eyes are really green.”

“Are they?” he asks as his phone goes off. “Sorry,” he apologizes as he pulls out his phone, checking it. “It’s time to head back.”

“Thank you for bringing me,” I say as I stand.

“Anytime Cleo.”

“Hey, boss. We need to talk.”Kenji walks through my office door.

I look up, not liking the serious look on his face. Pushing away the papers in front of me, I give him my full attention.

“Is Cleo okay?”

“Yes,” he says, making me slightly relax.

“What is it then?”

“Two things. One, I’ve been hearing some rumors about some strife in the Irish ranks. Seems that someone new is wanting to take over the leadership.”

“Fuck.” I rub my hand on my face. “Is she in danger?”

“As of right now? No, but there’s a lot of unrest. It’s not just two sides. From what I hear, her father is trying to get soldiers, but instead of inspiring loyalty, a third group has taken his plan and wants to take both him and Killian out. It’s a dangerous situation.”

My gut instinct says to get her out, but I can’t. I punch my desk, letting the pain center me.

“When at all possible, I want you in the tunnels. Maybe we need to double up and have two of you on her at a time. Nothing can happen to her.”

“I know, boss. We will take care of her. She will be okay.”

“We need to be prepared. I want more ears on the ground.”

“Done. The other issue is a little different. I found out who Callum really is.”

“What do you mean?”

“He held a leadership position in New York before coming here.”

“Why did he take a guard position then?” I frown.

“For her,” he says, hesitantly.

My heart clenches. “What do you mean?”

“Well, it took a lot of digging, but I found out who Callum’s birth mother is.”

“It isn’t Shileen?”
