“Come in,” I say. “Hey, Callum. What’s up?” I ask once the door is shut.

“I have to run an errand. I don’t like leaving you here by yourself, but I can’t take you. Will you do me a favor and stay in your room? I’d prefer your father not corner you while I’m gone.”

I nod in understanding.

My father has caught onto the fact that Callum is always around to step in when he becomes overbearing.

He hates it too.

“Of course. No problem.”

“Thanks.”

He closes the door behind him as he leaves.

I pick up the phone, shooting a text off to Kai.

Cleo: What are you doing?

Kai ?: Thinking about you. What are you wearing?

He is such a perv.

Cleo: Clothes. Callum had to go out on an errand. I’m bored out of my mind, locked in my room. Entertain me.

Kai ?: Is that all I’m good for? Entertainment when you’re bored?

I chuckle. I can almost hear his teasing voice as he says the words. The first couple of times he pulled this, my stomach would clench thinking I upset him, but he always assured me he was joking. Slowly but surely, I’m getting to know him.

Cleo: Well, I don’t want to marry a boring man.

Kai ?: Oh, you won’t be. You’ll be marrying me. I’m the most entertaining motherfucker there is. Especially when I use my cock. Want me to show you?

I choke on my spit at his forwardness. He has made little pervy jokes here and there, but this is the first time he has actually said he would want to do that. With me.

Before I can respond, my door opens.

I slide the phone under my leg as my father strides in.

“Get up and get dressed. You have somewhere to be.”

“Callum told me to stay here,” I whisper.

He takes the two steps to my bed, his hand clamping down around my upper arm, pulling me from the bed.

“Callum’s not your father. I am. I don’t give a fuck what he or Killian want. I said get dressed. If I have to ask again, I’ll punish you.”

I swallow hard. “Okay. Please, you’re hurting me.”

His laugh is low. “I’ll show you hurt.”

Then his hand lands across my face. The sting hits me immediately. My eyes prickle at the sensation.

“Go put some makeup on and get dressed. If you’re not downstairs in ten minutes, I will mark the other side to match.”

When he leaves the room, I rush back to the bed, grabbing my phone. There’s another message from Kai.

Kai ?: Did I scare you away, Princess?
