I give him a small smile, even though he isn’t looking my way to see it.

“I know, but still. I appreciate it.”

He lets out a sigh, turning to look at me. “What’s your game?”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me,” he grumbles.

“No game. Honestly, I appreciate you. I know Willow does too, even if she won’t admit it.”

He grunts, the subject dropping as we pull up to the house.

When he stops the truck but doesn’t get out, I turn to him once again.

“It was a pleasure to meet you, Brian. Be safe out there.”

His face holds confusion, but he nods.

I get out, startling as the front door swings open when I get to it. Another guard is on the other side.

“She’s in the living room. I’m going to patrol.”

I chuckle as he moves past me before he pushes me gently inside, pulling the door closed behind me. The lock clicks into place, only making me laugh harder.

Making my way down the hall, I call out to her, “Jesus, Willow. Did you have to scare the poor sucker? He looked ready to jump out of his skin.”

As I come up behind her, she looks over her shoulder. “Asshole thought he was going to tell me he was going to hang around while we talked. I reminded him I single-handedly took out Ricky Mitchell, and I wasn’t afraid to do the same to him. Then I might have also told him that Chase thoroughly enjoys fighting while it also turns me on, so that’s also an option.”

I shake my head, taking a seat on the couch. “How does Chase handle you?”

“With the most expert hands.”

“TMI. Moving on, what is this brilliant plan of yours?”

She smiles big. “Okay, so it’s going to sound crazy.”

“You’re crazy, so that makes sense.”

“Hush. You used to be a cheerleader in your old high school, right?”

I narrow my eyes on her. “How do you know that?”

“It wasn’t hard to figure out. I’ve seen your closet. You have a uniform in the back hiding. Then there was the picture on your dresser of you in uniform with your parents on the field.”

Rolling my eyes, I respond, “What’s your point?”

“My point is, why don’t you try out for the team?”

“Excuse me?”

“Think about it. You have the skills. You’re hot as fuck, so that won’t be a problem with them superficial bitches. Then once you’re in, you can try to find out more about Shannon. See if she hung around anyone in particular or if she had a boyfriend. Chase has been trying to dig, but he can’t find anything.”

“I don’t know.”

“It’s your choice, Hails.”

I think it over. It’s dangerous, but I want to help Chase. He has been good to me since Willow came into my life. He lets me hang out here whenever I want. He has protected me. I mean, it’s probably only out of loyalty to Willow, but fuck if I don’t want to earn his respect.
