He crowds me. “It’s true. You have these fuckable lips that draw every male eye to them.”
He reaches up, rubbing his finger across the bottom of my lip.
I shiver, but not with desire. No, I’m afraid. This man is dangerous, much like Nate and Rocky, but unlike them, I know this man has no reason to keep me safe. He could hurt me, and no one would even hear me scream.
I swallow hard. “Thank you, I think. I’m sorry, but I still have a task to finish.”
He chuckles. “How many do you have left? I’ll buy them all.”
Fuck.
“One,” I tell him honestly.
He brings out a band of money, peeling off a twenty before tucking it into my shirt.
I try to keep my eyes from bulging at the amount of cash he has on him. This man isn’t poor like the rest of us.
I grab the baggy, handing it to him. He slides it into his pocket before pressing me against the wall.
“There. Now for that raincheck.”
He leans in closer, his intent clear. He’s going to kiss me. He’s going to do more than kiss me.
I take a deep breath, considering my options.
I could fight him, but he’s bigger than me. His arms look like pure muscle. Would it be worth angering him?
I don’t want whatever he wants though.
I’m fucked.
He’s almost closed the distance when the door swings open.
I jump, head-butting him in the process. Pain explodes in my head as the coppery taste of blood fills my tongue.
The man jumps back from me, turning to face the interruption.
There in the doorway stands my savior. The one man who hates me more than anyone else.
Yet in this moment, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, but with him. Even with the hatred burning in his eyes and knowing his words will make me bleed, I feel safe with him.
I give myself a moment to take him in, hoping he doesn’t leave me here with this man.
He’s wearing a plain black T-shirt paired with dark jeans. His brown hair is in disarray, but it’s his eyes that draw me in. The normal hazel color is overtaken by a deep brown, almost black. He’s angry, but the question is who he is angry at.
“Get out. Hailee and I need to have a little talk.”
Me.He’s angry at me.
Fuck.
Still, Nate is the lesser of two evils. Stick with the devil you know.
The man stands taller. “You think you’re going to make me?”
Nate takes a step closer to him. “I know I am. Now why don’t you get gone before I make you wish you were never born.”
The man in front of me chuckles. “Sure man. Whatever you say.” Then the man glances back at me. “I still expect my raincheck.”
