“I won’t get into trouble if I’m not caught.”

“Please, it’s not worth the risk.”

“What can I do for you?” I ask as I brush the hair out of her face.

“Just stay with me.”

“I can do that, Comet.”

The way she would smile at me when no one was looking.

“Why do you keep looking at me? Shouldn’t your eyes be on the road?” she asks as I drive her home.

“You’re beautiful,” I tell her honestly.

“Stop trying to sweet talk me.” She sighs.

“If I was sweet-talking you, you would know it,” I tell her as I pull into her trailer park. I come to a stop outside of her place.

The urge to sweep her away from this shithole rides me hard, but I need to be patient with her. She’s not like the others. Where they want to snatch me up and make me theirs, she resists it.

“Thanks for the ride,” she says as she reaches for the door handle.

I don’t want her to go. My mouth moves before my brain can catch up.

“Wait,” I say, making her pause. “Do you have to go in right now?”

“No, but why wouldn’t I?” She frowns.

“You could sit out here and get to know me,” I say as I shut off the truck.

“Who says I want to get to know you?” Her eyes are teasing as she has a small smile on her face.

Fuck, I want to kiss her.

I dramatically clutch my chest. “You wound me,” I say, making her roll her eyes.

“Come on, give me a chance. You know you want to,” I tease.

Hailee shakes her head but I still see the smile peeking through.

“Fine.” She sighs, crossing her arms. “Tell me about yourself.”

I come out of the memory and can’t help but smile. For over two hours we sat outside her place, talking. As more time went by, the closer we got. The bickering became our way of flirting. The stolen touches became my drug. The way I craved her. The way I still crave her. I sit on my bed, running my hands through my hair.

Was it all a lie?

Where did we go wrong?

One thing is for sure. I won’t let her hurt my family. I don’t care what it takes. I will destroy her if she even tries.

Getting closerto the girls has been a blessing. Especially since outside of them, the entire school has deemed me the enemy.
