I don’t know how much time passes, but when I catch my breath, I find Chase still propped above me, his head against my chest. I reach up, pulling my fingers through his hair. His body shivers against mine as soon as I touch him.

He pulls out slowly, causing an ache to ping through me. I’m sore, but it’s almost a turn-on to be so sore.

He pulls his head up, kissing me lightly.

“Let me take care of this.” He gestures down to his dick, still sheathed in the condom.

I nod, watching as he leaves the room, closing his door behind him.

I give myself a moment to bask in the afterglow. All the thoughts from before are muted, my only focus on the way my body still tingles.

When the door opens, Chase stands there, still naked, holding a washcloth. He moves closer to the bed as I lean up to watch him. When he moves toward my center, my face flushes with embarrassment.

“I can do it,” I whisper.

He glares at me. “You’re mine. I take care of what’s mine.”

The same jolt from before hits me at his words. It’s hot as hell to be on the receiving end of his possessive nature.

I study him as he reaches between my legs. There’s a small spot of red covering my thighs. As he wipes my center clean, I realize it’s blood. An unusual swell of emotion fills me, tears flowing from my eyes without conscious thought.

When he glances back up at me, his eyes soften. He tosses the washcloth to the side, climbing up the bed to pull me into his chest.

“What’s wrong, baby?” His hands caress my hair as he holds me tight.

“I don’t know. Nothing, really. I don’t even really know why I’m crying right now. It’s like seeing the blood severed something inside me and the dam burst.”

“Did I hurt you?”

Pulling back, I look into his eyes. “No. Well, it did hurt a little when you broke my hymen, but not in a bad way. I wanted this. I’m not sad. I promise. I’m just being a girl.”

He chuckles, his hand coaxing my head back to his chest.

“Be a girl, then. My girl.”

“If I’m your girl, are you going to actually tell me what it is that you do?” I say lightly, running my fingers over his abs.

“I’m a businessman whose business is less than legal. I control the streets. We make the most money on fight nights, but dabble in drugs. When I was in school and the guy before me was in charge, drugs flowed in the schools. When I took over, I made sure none were sold at schools. Kids don’t need to be involved with this shit. Slowly I’m making my way toward the legal side.”

“That’s noble,” I murmur into his chest.

As we lie in silence, his hands caressing my body, I let myself have this moment.

For one single moment, I let myself be happy.

Seventeen

A loud poundingnoise startles me awake.

Sitting straight up, I glance around the room to get my bearings.

The bedroom door is open, the spot next to me in bed still warm.

Chase must have gotten up.

I pull on Chase’s discarded T-shirt before making my way down the hall. At the end, I can hear the female sobs.

I gasp at the sight of her. Hailee sits on the edge of the couch, face bloodied and bruised.
