I almost want to demand one, but it’s probably not best with my head feeling like it went a round with a Mack truck and lost.
“Water,” I tell him.
He comes back moments later with three plates and three bottles of water. He sets down the plates, passing out the water first.
“Ladies first.” He motions to me.
Biting my tongue, I open the box, pulling out one piece.
Nate snorts as Chase strides over, grabbing a second piece and placing it on my plate before grabbing a couple of his own.
“I only wanted one.”
He shrugs. “You’ll eat two.”
Nate doesn’t say a word, making his own plate before flopping beside me on the couch.
I have to admit, the smell of the freshly melted cheese makes my stomach growl.
Nate nods to my plate, silently urging me to eat.
I take a small bite, letting the taste linger on my tongue. I must make a noise because when I open my eyes, both men have their eyes on me.
“What?” I manage after I swallow.
“Nothing,” Chase says gruffly, shooting Nate a look.
“What? I never said anything,” he grumbles, taking a bite of his pizza.
“You guys are weird.”
“Are we, though?” Nate teases, making me roll my eyes.
“Nate,” Chase says, grabbing his attention.
I tune them out and eat my pizza.
“Where should I put this?” I ask when I finish, standing, holding my plate.
“Just set it down. Either Nate or I will take it once we’re done,” Chase says, nodding toward the coffee table.
I set the plate down and curl back onto the couch. Laying my arm on the armrest of the couch, I lay my head down on my arm and shut my eyes. Soon enough, the boys’ conversation lulls me to sleep.
I come to when I feel someone moving me.
“Wha…” I say sleepily.
“Shh,” Chase rasps in my ear. “Go back to sleep. I’ll check on you in a few hours,” he says as he covers me with a blanket.
I grab on to the blanket and snuggle back down and fall back asleep before he’s even out of the room.
Three
I stretchas I come awake and freeze. My eyes pop open as I stare at the unfamiliar ceiling. I sit up quickly, my hand going to my head when a minor ache sets in.
I let out a sigh as I remember the events from last night.
The woods. The man chasing me.
