“Good to know you are good at your job.”

I pat Luca on the arm and he gives me a small smile.

“I have a feeling you are going to keep me on my toes.”

The other two men grunt an agreement.

“Oh, take a chill pill and wait in the hall. You are ruining a moment here.”

I wave my hands at them in a shoo motion and they all turn and leave.

“Way to call the cavalry, Iz.” Mia says as she sits up on the bed.

“You caught me by surprise. I can’t help my reaction.” She shrugs

“Are you guys good now?” I sit next to Mia on the bed.

“Yeah.” She squeezes both our hands. “We are good.”

“Good. Group hug!” I tackle both of them on the bed in a hug.

After making sure the girls got everything, I walked them out to the cars and waves my goodbyes. I am standing there, watching the cars leave when a pair of arms wraps around my middle from behind.

“Did you still want to talk, Tesoro? I could think of some better things we could be doing with our mouths instead.”

“You are such a horn dog. “

He squeezes me.

“Just for you.”

I cough into my hand and mutter ‘bullshit.’

His deep chuckle washes over me. When I first met him, I didn’t imagine the number of smiles he would give me or the amount of warmth I would feel from his laugh. I don’t know why we met that day, but I feel he was put in my path on purpose. Like some higher being decided I needed him in my life at this moment. I suppose with the whole Ryan thing I do, but my heart aches at the thought of losing him when this is all done.

Just for now works, but only if you let go of all your emotions. Unfortunately, mine seem to be sticking around for the show.

“Let’s go inside and talk. Maybe the den?”

He kisses my neck.

“Anywhere you want.”

I turn in his arms and press my lips to his lightly before pulling back and walking into the house. Once in the den, I sit on the love seat and pat for him to sit next to me. Once he takes his seat, he pulls me into his lap and nuzzles my neck. I giggle at the playfulness of it.

“What is it that is so important you just had to speak to me about?” He teases.

“I have two things I want to discuss.”

“Okay. What is it?”

“Number one. I want my gun back. If not my gun, at least a gun similar. It makes me feel safer knowing I have a way to defend myself if it comes down to it.”

“Okay, but counter offer. I will get you a gun if you let me teach you how to use it properly. Lo said you did good with it, but that it was obvious you didn’t have any training. If you are going to own a weapon, you need to know how to use it.”

He is right. My dad let me shoot a bit when I was young, but I never really got into it. I never saw the need. Now I am kicking myself for not taking those lessons more seriously. A little help couldn’t hurt.

“Deal.”
