“Should we talk about how you should not laugh when I’m naked? You’ll give me a complex.”
My feet moved toward him without my brain realizing it and in seconds, he was snagging my hand and pulling me against his warm and very hard body. My thigh grazed his cock and my body clenched.
“So, breakfast?” I asked, my voice raspy. And then I gasped as he nibbled along my jaw and bit down gently on my earlobe. I scissored my legs, unable to stop myself.
“In a minute,” he murmured against my skin. “Fuck, I can’t get enough of you.”
An alarm went off.
“What is that?” he asked.
Shit. It was my phone.
Then Pucks started barking and Gabe groaned against my shoulder. “So much for snuggling,” he muttered.
“Is your dog whining?” It was faint, but that’s what it sounded like.
“Yes. Probably. He’s not a fan of alarms. Usually because he knows it means I’m getting up and out of bed, which is where he normally sleeps, and Pucks loves his sleep.”
“Oh no, did I take his spot? I mean, I get it. You’re nice to snuggle against. For the most part.”
“Hey,” he exclaimed, lifting his head to stare at me. “I’m a great snuggler. Nice strong arms, warm chest. I’m ideal.”
I couldn’t contain my laughter. “Valid points, but it’s hard to get comfy when I’m being poked in the side with your dick.”
I snorted, shocked that I’d actually said those words to him.
He barked out a laugh. “I do apologize for poking you. Scratch that, I absolutely do not apologize. Maybe we should find a way to settle him down.”
“Your dick or the dog?” And then I was full-out laughing. Chuckling harder than I ever had before when I’d been naked in a man’s bed. It felt almost freeing, even as tears pricked my eyes. I was afraid I’d lost my mind.
I swiped at my face.
“I’m hoping those are happy tears.” He shifted us so that we were side by side and facing each other, and then he tenderly tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and held my gaze.
“Yes. They are. I’m not sure what you’ve done to me, Gabe. I think you’ve fucked me delirious.”
“You’re welcome. Fucking hell, you’re so damn stunning right now. And if I have to make you out of your mind so you’ll smile at me like this, just be prepared.”
I trailed a hand up his chest to cup his jaw, and he turned his face to kiss my palm. He was so tactile. I’d never really been a fan of constant touching with the men I’d dated, but he was different.
Shit. I sucked in a breath. I couldn’t think of him that way. Yes, we were having fun, but that’s all I could handle right now. It would do me no good to think of this going anywhere else.
“What’s that face?” he asked, running his thumb across my brow.
“What?” I shook my head. “Nothing, just annoyed that I have to get out of this bed.”
“I’ll get your phone.”
“No, I mean, I also should probably go. I have that meeting with Meredith later today.” I started to twist from him.
“Right. But I did promise you breakfast.” He dropped a kiss on my shoulder but let me scoot away. I instantly missed him as soon as my feet were on the floor. I wanted to ignore my stupid doubts and turn off my phone and then climb right back into bed with him. My meeting wasn’t for at least a few hours.
No. This was the smart thing. Falling for him would just lead to heartache and I’d had more than enough of that to last a lifetime.
TUCKS
It wasn’t lost on me that she’d pulled away the other morning in bed. I’d let it go because I didn’t want to further mess up that moment. Fuck, she’d looked so damn happy. My chest squeezed just thinking about it two days later.
