The sound of a whimper made me question just how much I wanted to test that, but I wasn’t sure if the whimper had come from me or Dani. I kept my hand anchored at her hip, resisting the urge to lift her as her tongue swiped against mine.

A few whistles and possibly a catcall broke through the lust-fog in my mind, and Dani abruptly ended the kiss and jerked her head back.

Sin chuckled. “Damn, Tucks, just kiss Dani like that the next time you run into Jenzy, and if he doesn’t get the message, he needs his head examined.”

But I didn’t look up at any of them, my focus glued on Dani. Her cheeks were pink, her lips slightly parted, but her body was stiff.

Shit. Had I taken it too far?

I leaned in close and murmured. “Sorry. Got a little carried away.”

She bit down slightly on her lower lip, and it took everything in me not to groan. Frazzled Dani was a sight that I wanted to replicate as many times as she’d let me.

Then my phone buzzed in my pocket. For a second, I thought I was just vibrating because of her, which wouldn’t have been far off the mark.

The season was just starting and I knew she wasn’t actually looking to date anyone, but it’d crossed my mind more than once what it would be like if this wasn’t just for show.

Hell, her tongue had definitely not just felt for show.

The lines were already blurring for me. Was it stupid to hope that they would for her, too?

Chapter 9

DANI

Holy shit, Gabe sent my brain on vacation every time he kissed me, and I knew that was dangerous. I didn’t want to think about how this man made me feel. I had to just focus on doing what we needed to do to show Roger I had fully moved on.

This was just for show. We were good actors.

It would be fine.

Totally fine.

“Not to be a creeper, but I just texted you a pic.” Josie’s voice cut through my brain, and I watched Gabe take his phone out of his pocket.

“Totally Insta worthy,” Josie continued, giving me a wink when I met her gaze.

“Are you seriously taking pictures of them? Just promise not to start drawing them for your authors,” Micah admonished his girlfriend.

She put her hand on her chest. “Micahtron, I would never do that. I don’t sketch people I know and use their tattoos in my illustrations only to have them end up in romance novels.” She paused, grinning. “Except you, of course.”

“Dammit, Hurricane.” There was a slight grin on his face as he shook his head at her.

“What?” I asked.

Josie looked over at me, a twinkle in her eyes. “Sorry. One of my jobs is doing spicy illustrations for authors to put in their books, usually special editions, or to use as reader gift type stuff. And sometimes the hero has one of Micah’s tattoos. It’s fun trying to get him to spot them.” Then she patted his bicep and smirked.

I couldn’t help but chuckle, and I was also grateful for the attention shifting off of me and Tucks. Micah had called her Hurricane, and I could already tell how perfect that nickname probably was for her.

“So, what did you just take a picture of?” I asked.

“Oh, just you two looking adorable together. Sometimes I wish we had more candids of us.” She batted her lashes at Micah for good measure. “We should totally take more pics of us together, sweetie.” That woman was a lot.

“Are you going to be randomly snapping pics of all of us?” Sin asked. “I’d tell you to get my good side, but I don’t have a bad one.”

A few of the people around us groaned.

Sin laughed. “What? Did you honestly think I’d let that clear lead-in slip by me? Come on, now.”
