I shake my head. “He was too exhausted to talk last night. I was going to tell him today.”

Durango leans against the counter. “Tell me what?”

Samantha sets her coffee cup down. “Well, to answer your original question, Durango, I’ve seen her ex have sex. But not with her. No, sadly, it was with about a hundred other women. And trust me, I can tell just by looking at you that you’ll be better at it. Or at least I hope so, for Willow’s sake.”

Durango blinks a few times. “I don’t want to ask because I don’t think I’m going to like whatever story you’re about to tell me.”

“No, you won’t,” Samantha says.

“Is this related to why you two stayed here last night?” he asks.

“It is,” Samantha says. “You might want to grab some coffee before we dive in.”

CHAPTER 20

Durango

Samantha has watchedWillow’s ex have sex with one hundred women? I don’t want to know why, but clearly, it’s related to her ex and why they are here. I pour myself a cup of coffee and sit at the kitchen table. Their eyes are on me as I take a deep breath and ready myself.

“Okay, Samantha, can you explain why you saw her ex have sex with other women?”

Willow stares down at the table. “First, please don’t get mad,” Willow says.

I rub the scruff on my chin. “That’s not a good start.”

Willow wraps her hands around her tea mug. “As you know, I’ve been seeing a therapist.”

Samantha leans back in her chair. “Wow, you’re going with the long version. All right.”

Willow glares at her friend. “The therapist said something that stuck with me. It’s something you said, too. She said I likely wasn’t his first victim, nor would I be his last. The more Ithought about it, the more it bothered me that he might do this to someone else.”

I really don’t like where this is going.

“Samantha had some unexpected time off, and we decided to get evidence to try to stop Tyler from hurting anyone else.”

I’m not going to like what they did; I can feel it. “What kind of evidence?”

She takes a sip of coffee. “One time, I saw Tyler had some videos on his computer. I only saw part of a couple of them, but he was having sex with women. I’m sure they didn’t consent to being taped. Samantha helped me get a copy of those videos.”

I jump up, causing my chair to fall backward, and Willow jerks in surprise. “You broke into his house and stole his computer?” I ask.

“No, nothing that dramatic,” Samantha says. “We had a key, and we made copies of the videos. He still has his computer.”

I turn to Willow. “You still had a key?”

“No,” Samantha says. “I found it under a gnome.”

“Jesus,” I pinch my brow. I’m glad I didn’t know what was going on when I was on assignment because there is no way I could have stayed focused. “What if he’d been inside when you went in?”

“We’re not amateurs,” Samantha says. “We watched and waited for him and his new girlfriend to leave.”

Part of me is angry that Willow put herself in danger, but another part of me is impressed that she pulled off getting these videos.

“What do you plan to do with the files?” I ask.

“Samantha recognized one of the women, so she shared that file with someone,” Willow says.

I turn to Samantha. “It’s like a gossip site, but it doesn’t matter because the woman denied it was her. So, then we wentto Connecticut to meet with another woman. But she destroyed the file and refused to cooperate,” Samantha explains.
