“You just happen to have cameras in your room?”
He shakes his head. “I bought these a few days ago and haven’t gotten around to installing them yet.”
My stomach growls, and I have no idea how long it’sgoing to take him to install those. “Should I order us a pizza?” Although I really want something else since we seem to only be eating pizza lately.
“Oh, no. I was going to order some other takeout. Willow is coming over. Is that okay?”
I haven’t met Willow yet, and all of a sudden, I’m nervous. Ozzie isn’t with her now, but she was someone he was interested in once upon a time.
“Of course,” I say.
He pulls his phone from his pocket. “I didn’t realize how late it was. She’s going to be here soon. I’ll install the cameras in the morning.” He sets the toolbox down. “I’m going to order the usual from the Italian place plus a little extra. Sound good?”
“Sure. When is she coming over?”
He puts our order in. “About fifteen minutes. I’m going to take a quick shower.”
He’s off before I can object. I’m surprised he invited her over while I’m here. If I were them, I’d want time alone to talk. Although, it’s not like he has much choice. He’s stuck babysitting me.
I don’t have long to mull it over before there is a knock at the door. I check the peephole and verify it’s a woman. I’m not prepared when I open the door. She is gorgeous, and her body is amazing.
“You must be Piper?” she asks.
“Yes, and you must be Willow. Come in.”
I step aside and allow her in. Then I lead her to the couch, where we both sit down.
Her eyes take in everything and finally make their wayback to me. “I’m not sure how much your cousin has told you. I never meant to hurt him. I was immature and stupid.” She licks her lips. “I won’t ever do anything to hurt him again. I want you to know that.”
I blink a few times. “Are you two dating?”
He hasn’t really told me anything about her. It’s one thing to have to meet her now and know she was with Ozzie, but if they are dating…
“Oh, no!” she says quickly. “But I’ll be honest, I want to. When I saw him again, I realized my feelings never went away. He’s concerned. And I need time. So, we are just getting reacquainted again.”
“He and Ozzie are best friends,” I blurt out.
She smiles. “Yes, I figured they were still close since Ozzie asked me to stay with him until this was worked out.”
My stomach rolls, and I might be sick imagining her living with Ozzie. I take a deep breath to subdue it. “Are you staying in the spare bedroom?”
She smiles. “You’ve been there?”
“I have.”
“He mentioned his roommate moved out recently. He said I could stay as long as I needed. It’s only been a couple of nights, but it feels right. Being here.”
“Willow?” Durango says as he walks into the living room. His hair is wet from his shower.
I take this opportunity to leave. I stand up. “I’ll give you two a moment.”
I rush to my bedroom before anyone can object. I close the door and lean on it, falling to the floor. I need to get agrip. Ozzie moved her here to help us. He explained it all to me because he’s aware of my trust issues, thanks to John.
John would never have been that understanding. He changed while we were together. It was gradual enough that I made excuses. But his dishonesty was always there, and I ignored it.
He’d hang out with his friends, and he’d tell me they went to a bar, but I’d find out later they went to a strip club. The first time, I confronted him. He said he didn’t tell me because it would upset me. I tried to explain I didn’t care about that, but I did care that he was honest with me.
He never could be. And here, Ozzie is trying to be. Yet, I’m still upset.
