CT’s eyes widen. “Oh. Have you talked to Durango about it?”
“Don’t have to. He tells me at least once a week not to even think about it.”
CT shakes his head. “That’s rough.”
Lightning turns to face CT. “Hey, aren’t you in the same situation?”
CT shifts in his seat. “No, not at all.”
Lightning grins. “Yes, you are.” He turns his gaze to mine. “CT has a thing for Rover’s little sister.”
“How the hell would you know that?” CT asks.
Lightning shrugs. “Coff might have mentioned it.”
CT mumbles something under his breath that sounds like, “Asshole.”
“What’s your situation?” Axel asks.
CT shakes his head.
“Come on. It might help Ozzie.”
CT looks up. “It won’t. But what I’m about to tell you cannot leave here. I’m serious.”
“Okay,” Thunder says.
“Sure,” Lightning says.
“Lips are sealed,” I say.
CT glances at Axel.
“Won’t say a word,” Axel says.
CT takes a drink of his beer. “Rover is my best friend. Has been for years. Well, it’s true I like his little sister. But!” He holds up his hand. “Nothing can ever happen between us. I understand that. Do I like it? No. Rover tells me often not to even look at his sister. We’re friends, and that’s all it can ever be.”
The man stares straight ahead, sorrow in his eyes. The idea of knowing nothing could ever happen with Piper would be hell.
“Wow, that does sound similar,” Axel says. “Does she like you?”
CT nods. “She does. She gave me an ultimatum to either talk to Rover about it, or she was moving on.”
Lightning leans forward. “What did you do?”
“Nothing. Not a goddamn thing.” CT’s grip on his glass tightens. “And now she’s dating some asshole.”
We all sit quietly, not sure what to say.
CT turns to me. “Don’t let that happen to you because fuck, man, it really sucks to see the person you care about dating someone else.”
The idea of Piper giving up on me and moving on would hurt like hell. But deep down, I’m not sure I can change Durango’s mind. He’s one of the most stubborn men I know. When he forms an opinion, it’s almost impossible to change.
As if reading my mind, Lightning nudges my leg. “Hey, I convinced Durango to eat pineapple on a pizza. You can do this.”
I laugh because he’s ridiculous. “I hardly think food compares.”
Axel frowns. “I don’t know. That is pretty foul, and I still can’t believe Durango tried it, much less admitted he liked it. It was a crazy night.”
