I grin as I set my sandwich down. “He’s the best I’ve ever been with.”
“Out of two?”
“Yes, but everything with him was different. There’s this chemistry. I’ve never felt anything like it before.” My mind goes to when he first took my hand in the bar. The electric spark surprised me.
“Will you see him again, or was that it?” she asks.
“We’re going to try long-distance dating.”
Her eyes widen. “Wow, really?”
I nod.
“Well, good for you! Maybe he can take you with him wherever he gets stationed and get you away from this hell.”
“It’s not so bad here. I love my family, and I’m not sure I’d want to be that far from them.”
And my dad would never allow it. I may be an adult, but he’s made it clear he wants me to be nearby for my protection. That’s why I live at home and drive to the university instead of living on campus like I want to.
“Besides, Logan has less than two years left. Then he’s going to move here. You know, if things work out.”
Sam wipes her mouth with a napkin. “It sounds like you guys talked long term.”
I shrug. “Not really. We just agreed we want more than one week, and we plan to call, text, and FaceTime whenever we can.”
She grins. “He sounds great. I’m happy for you. Any chance he has a brother?”
“He mentioned an older brother but didn’t say much about him.”
Sam clasps her hands. “Older. Intriguing.”
I fold up the empty wrapper and put it into the bag. “Slow down. Let me see if this will work out first. Then I’ll ask about his brother. All right?”
“Okay, but I’m going to hold you to it.”
My gut tells me it will work out. Being with Logan feels different from anything else I’ve experienced. It sounds corny, but it’s true. Logan feels like my destiny.
CHAPTER3
Logan
Despite not seeing Delaney in person for months, I’ve grown to care about her more than I did after our week together. We’ve had a handful of FaceTime meetings, but mostly we’ve communicated via text messages. I’m hoping she likes my next message.
Me:I have some leave coming up at the end of December.
She responds right away.
Delaney:Will you come see me?
Me:I would love to.
Delaney:Send me the dates, and I’ll arrange everything.
I send her the information and pocket my phone. Another week of hot sex with this woman I can’t stop thinking about sounds like bliss. And I know I’m crazy for thinking like this, but if things go the way I hope, I’ll be an engaged man by the new year. My hand goes to my pocket where the little box rests.
“Hey, Coff!”
I turn and spot Ozzie walking my way.
