Ozzie smiles. “Thunder brought in some shirts for us.”

Each shirt is of a different cat. “Why?”

“To torture me,” Lightning says.

I glance around the room again. “Hey, we’re all here at the same time.”

Durango pushes off the counter. “Yeah, but not for long. Reed wants to see you, Ozzie, Axel, and me in his office.”

I follow the guys down the hall to Reed’s office.

“Close the door,” Reed instructs.

As the last one in, I do so, then sit down. Reed’s office isn’t large, but somehow, he fits us all in here for team meetings. With only half of us here, we can all at least sit down.

“Coff’s brother has another assignment for you guys. I just spoke to him about it this morning, and I have concerns.”

“What kind of concerns?” Axel asks.

Reed stands up and turns to the window. “This assignment involves the Mexican cartel, and we don’t have contacts there you can rely on if things go sideways.”

Did I hear him right? “Reed, my brother is asking us to do something involving the cartel?”

Reed turns to me and nods.

“What?”

“Take them down. Well, specifically one man. He’s in charge of the cartel’s drugs that go in through San Diego.”

Durango glances around at us, then Reed. “Why? We all know how this works. If we take out one man, they will have someone to replace him the next day.”

Reed leans on his desk. “Apparently, this particular man has put a hit on Agent Folger. He found out Folger was working undercover to take down his operation. How he found out is undetermined at this point.”

I stand up, suddenly needing to move. “Wait, he was working undercover?”

“That’s what he told me. His superior confirmed it in our call.”

I fall back into my chair. Okay, so my brother isn’t a traitor. But then, why don’t I feel relieved? Something isn’t right, but I won’t figure anything out until I talk to him privately.

“Who is the man we are looking for?” Durango asks.

Reed stares directly at me. “Ruiz.”

The man Brian was talking to on the phone after the shooting. The man who wanted Duke and Delaney dead. Now he’s going after my brother. This might be a mission to protect my brother, but if I get the chance, I’ll take that son of a bitch, Ruiz, out.

CHAPTER24

Logan

I spendthe next twenty-four hours anxious until I can talk to my brother in person. Thankfully, we have a private flight to California, but even though it’s direct, it feels like the longest flight I’ve been on. The moment we land, Brian is waiting on the tarmac to talk to us.

Before he can even say hello, I take him aside. “Can I talk to you privately?” I ask.

He frowns. “Sure.”

I walk him away from the other guys. “What’s going on?”

He cocks his head. “Well, I was about to tell all of you the details.”
