I blow out a breath. “Don’t you think you’ve done enough? Are you here because you’re afraid I won’t play well without Abby in my bed? Because if that’s why—”

“I swear it’s not. I feel bad for being an asshole. Just wanna make it up to you. To Abby too. So I thought I’d gather the hive mind and see if we could figure out something. That’s why I brought the whiteboard and ordered us some pizza. My treat.”

I’m out of ideas, so I guess it can’t hurt to see what my friends think. We sit around my living room, and a few minutes later, the food arrives. The guys woof it down, but all I can do is think about how much I’ve messed up with Abby. “I’m not sure she’s even listened to my messages.”

Jinxy grabs a pen, writes my name on the board, and draws an arrow to the word ‘Blocked.’

“Thanks for spelling that out for me,” I say dryly.

“What about her friends? Paige and Baylee. Who else does she hang out with?”

I shrug. “Maybe Cadence? But she says she hasn’t spoken to Abby. I’ve already tried calling Paige and Baylee. Paige won’t return my calls, and Baylee told me to pull my head outta my ass.”

The guys chuckle and Mav smirks. “My girl is feisty as fuck.”

His girl? “Are you two a thing?”

“Nah. We grew up together. Have always been close.”

Jinxy lifts an eyebrow. “Close as in you’ve stuck your dick in her?”

“Watch your fucking mouth. Baylee is out of your league, so don’t even think about trying to get with her.”

Hmm. I’m sure there’s a story there, but Mav’s love life is none of my business, and I’d like to keep it that way.

I clear my throat. “Jinxy, remember what Coach said, that you need to watch how you talk about women? Not sure you want to continue cleaning the toilets.”

“Oh, shit. You’re right. I’m sorry I talked about Baylee like that, Maverick.”

Mav rolls his eyes, and Dax chuckles, then looks at his phone. “Okay, let’s focus ’cause I have a date in an hour. Has anyone seen Abby since the day of the accident?”

Anytime I’m on campus, I can’t help looking for her. “I haven’t. I was hoping she’d stop by the cafeteria, and I’ve even walked around the Education building a few times, but I haven’t spotted her anywhere, not even the diner. Moe told me she gave away all of her shifts.” Which isn’t like her at all. I hate that I’m the reason she flipped her life around. That she’s been so upset about what happened between us, she disappeared.

Jinxy helpfully writes M.I.A. on the board.

After discussing this with my friends for the next twenty minutes, I start to think it’s a hopeless cause. “Is it possible she went home already? She could’ve wrapped up her finals this week.”

“Where does she live?” Dax asks.

“San Antonio. I’d drive down there this weekend if I knew where her family lived.”

“You should definitely take her flowers.”

Jinxy writes ‘flowers’ and ‘dick pics’ on the board, and I shake my head. “Dick pics?”

“Bro, it works for me every time. You should try it. Maybe set some nice mood lighting and find your best angle. Show her what she’s missing. You could dress it up in a little outfit, like one of those Wiener Warmers or get yourself a nice top hat for an elegant yet jaunty vibe.”

A top hat. For my dick.

Dax snorts, and I have a hard time not laughing.

Mav tilts his head. “Depending on what you’re working with, it can be effective.”

What the hell is wrong with my friends? I ignore the dick pic suggestion. “I’m not sure flowers would cut it at this point, but I can’t even do that without her address.”

Jinxy points at me. “That’s what we should focus on. What you’re gonna do to get her to forgive us.”

“Us?” I ask.
