“It’s been so hard to do a long-distance relationship.” She looks around to make sure we’re alone and whispers, “We’ve had this weird energy lately, and I thought if we spent more time together before the draft, we’d be better off.”

You’re feeling weird energy because Ezra has been fucking every girl on campus and lying to your face about it.The words are on the tip of my tongue.

I take a deep breath. “Listen, Abigail. I know we don’t know each other well, but—”

“Oh my God! Are you serious?” My eyes widen, and my heart pounds. Does she know I slept with her fiancé? I need to tell her I didn’t realize he had a serious girlfriend back home, but before I can say anything, she takes me by my shoulders and shakes me a little. “I’d love to hang out!” She blinks. “That’s what you were going to say, right?”

She looks so excited to spend time together, and I feel like a piece of shit for sleeping with her fiancé. It doesn’t make me feel any better that I was just as clueless about Ezra’s philandering as she is. I cough. “Y-yes. You took the words right out of my mouth.”

“Good, because I don’t know anyone on campus, and Ezra has been too busy to spend any time with me. And I could really use a friend. You mentioned it when you came to my engagement party, but I didn’t know if you were just trying to be nice.”

“I… I’d love to be your friend.” It’s true. Abigail has this great energy about her and is super sweet. If we didn’t have this huge issue between us, she’s absolutely someone I’d want to be friends with.

She hooks her arm in mine. “Great! Let’s be besties. We can share everything. Like our deepest, darkest secrets.”

Like how I slept with your fiancé? Several times? And got knocked up?“That… that sounds great.”

I’m pretty sure I’m going to hell.

“Are you seeing anyone?”

“Um. Yeah, actually, I am.”

“Awesome! We should go on a double date. Wouldn’t that be so fun?”

So, so fun.

BILLY

When I unlockthe door to our apartment, I find Roxy curled up on the couch, asleep on her textbook, drooling a little. After I unload my gym bag and school crap, I grab a blanket and drape it over her.

“You’re home.” She yawns and smiles at me.

“Hey, gorgeous. Want some dinner? I have some chicken and pasta I snagged from the athletic caf.”

“That sounds good. Are you sure you have enough? I don’t want to steal your food.”

“I have enough for both of us. You think I’m gonna bring home dinner and not have enough to share?”

“Thank you. That’s really thoughtful.” She hops off the couch and flings herself into my arms. Tilting her head back, she gives me another sweet smile. “How was your day, dear? Was it ruined by my failed attempt to jerk you off last night?”

I bark out a laugh and hug her. “Feel free to sleep with your hand wrapped around my junk anytime.”

She snort-laughs and covers her mouth. “I’m sorry. I’m honestly so embarrassed.”

I hoist her into my arms and hold her by her ass. “No apology necessary.” I stomp over to the kitchen and place her on the counter before I take her beautiful face in my hands and kiss her. “We said we’d see where things go. There’s no rush or pressure to do anything. Let’s just have fun.”

For some reason, she frowns. “Have fun?”

I shrug. “Yeah, I mean, if you can’t have fun with your fake girlfriend with benefits, who can you have fun with?”

She chuckles. “I was just thinking the same thing.”

“It’s eerie how similar we are, isn’t it?” I ask as I palm her boob.

She reaches around and smacks my ass. “Totally.”
