In a move so swift I didn’t have a prayer of escaping, Rho bent, grabbed the sprinkler, and pointed it directly at me. “What about this? Could I have trained this away from happening?”

Biscuit barked and leapt in the air, loving the new game.

The freezing water streamed over me, and I found myself running before I could think about it.

Rho shrieked as I dove for her, grabbing her around the waist and forcing her into the sprinkler jets. “It’s freezing!”

“You think?” I yelled.

“Uncle! Uncle!” she screamed.

I hauled her out of the water but kept my grip firm.

Rho shoved her wet hair from her face, her hazel eyes locking with mine. Her breath hitched, and her gaze dropped to my lips.

Her breasts rose and fell with each inhale and exhale, pressingagainst my chest—so much heat despite the fact that we’d both been doused with ice water.

I needed to let her go. Step back. But I couldn’t. All I could do was stare into those witch eyes. “You don’t know what kind of game you’re playing, Reckless.”

It was one that could leave us both in ruins.

RHODES

Anson’s voicewas pure grit and warning, but the feel of it sent delicious shivers skating over my skin. I didn’t look away from his icy stare. “Seems like a fun game to me.”

His gaze dropped to my mouth. He was so close I could taste him in the air between us.

A bark sounded, and Biscuit launched himself against us, wanting in on the fun.

With an oof, Anson stumbled back a step. I instantly felt the loss of his heat, the air turning cold around me.

“He’s got some surprising strength,” Anson muttered.

Biscuit was probably forty-five pounds, but it was a muscly forty-five.

“Sorry about that,” I said, my cheeks heating. God, had I been about to kiss him? Somehow, I didn’t think that would have gone over especially well.

I motioned toward the cottage. “Come on. Shep left someworkout gear here in case he wanted to go for a run. You can borrow something of his.”

“I don’t need?—”

I pinned Anson with a stare. “You really want to climb into your truck soaking wet and ruin the leather?”

He glanced over his shoulder at his vehicle as the few remaining others headed down the drive. “No,” he muttered.

I nearly laughed.Boys and their toys.“You’d think I asked you to walk the plank. I don’t think you’ll die if you step inside my house.”

Anson didn’t say a word, just scowled as he headed for the door. He walked inside without asking but slipped his boots off on the porch. I followed behind him, doing the same with my flip-flops and holding the door for Biscuit, who’d shaken off most of the water.

Anson made his way down the hallway, coming up short in my living room that opened into the small kitchen. He gaped at the fireplace. “Is that a dick?”

He sounded so appalled that I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “It’s my dick flower, if you must know.”

His head whipped around in my direction. “Why?”

A genuine smile spread across my lips. “Lolli made it for me.”
