“If you’re good, I’ll sneak you out early,” Oros said.

I shot her a smile. “You’re succeeding.”

Her lips twitched.

“At what?”

“Becoming my favorite twin.”

OROS

You’re succeeding.

At what?

Becoming my favorite twin.

I was a fucking goner. I was no better than Angelica’s plaything.

I had never had the urge to be the favorite twin. My entire life, I had been fine with Eros taking the spotlight.

It was comfortable. She was the one who would deal with things, which left me with the ability to hang back and watch it all unfold. It always gave me the upper hand and saved both of us on the few times Eros lost her temper.

But, for the first time,Iwanted to be at the forefront. When Eve saw both of us, I didn’t want to be hiding in the shadows. I wanted to be right at Eros’s side.

So we ditched the party, and I brought her to the place in the palace that I loved the most.

“Watch,” I whispered in her ear and placed a hand on her hip.

The secluded circular garden of mysterious flowers from arealm I did not know was in front of us. It wasn’t far from the main garden, but still enough out of the way that no one would bother us here.

Eros was on her other side, just as curious as to what I was going to show them. It was a place I’d kept to myself for a reason. It was almost a pity that I had to give it up, but it would be worth it to see the looks on their faces.

“I hate to be the one to tell you this, but nothing’s happenin?—”

She was cut off by Eve’s sharp intake of air. The flowers that had been hiding in the darkness of the night suddenly began to light up. Light blues and purples illuminated the night sky as the flower petals unfurled, giving us a look at the light pink orb inside.

I had stumbled onto the blooming flowers by accident. They did it once a month, and it just so happened to be on the same day Father loved to hold his galas.

It was easy to sneak out and see them.

“I never knew this was here,” Eros muttered.

We watched in silence as the petals started to break off. But instead of falling, they floated up, painting the sky with beautiful lights.

“I love it,” Eve whispered. She stepped forward to touch one of the floating petals, but when her hand came in contact with it, it disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

“That’s your reward for being such a good girl,” I said.

Her head whipped around, her eyes wide.

“Damn, I don’t think I can top this,” Eros admitted.

“I’ll take the title of favorite twin now,” I told Eve, letting an easy smile take over my face.

But Eve didn’t respond. Seconds passed until she suddenly threw her arms over my shoulders and crashed her lips against mine.
