“I apologize, kind sir.”

“All is forgiven, my lady.” He kissed the tip of my nose and then pulled me into his side. “Tell me something about you, Kaylee.”

My heart skipped several beats as I digested what had just happened. Was he really not going to kiss me anymore? It seemed like he was enjoying it as much as me. Maybe my age had doused the fire in him, but then why was he holding me? Were all city boys this confusing?

“You’re overthinking again, Kaylee.” Gerald kissed the top of my head

“I’m just… It’s just that…” My words died out because I couldn’t form a complete sentence. My words were trapped inside my head with no way out. I sighed heavily and sunk into Gerald’s side.

“Please, don’t think I don’t want you just because I stopped kissing you, Kaylee,” he whispered against the top of my head. “The day is still young and I have every intention of kissing you again.”

My cheeks reddened at the thought of him kissing me again. The aching throb between my thighs was intensifying. In a matter of seconds, I went from an insecure country bumpkin to a wanton hussy.

“You in town with friends?” Gerald’s words turned down the heat inside me.

I groaned when I realized he really wanted to talk and not continue our makeout session.

“You’re making it hard for me to be a gentleman,” he laughed.

“Sorry,” I sighed. “Temporarily staying in the city with friends.”

“Temporarily?”

“Wasn’t supposed to be temporary, but since I skipped my appointment, I have to bail on my friends and head back home.”

“Why are you bailing on them?”

“I wasn’t sure if what we were coming here for was something I really wanted to do. I had a lot of internal debating going on.”

“So what got you on the plane?”

I looked up at Gerald.

“You sure are inquisitive,” I teased.

“I didn’t realize country bumpkins knew big words.”

We both laughed and I found myself relaxing and snuggling up against him. He rubbed my arm and kissed the top of my head.

“Was the appointment what brought you here?” he asked softly. Not trusting my words, I nodded.

When silence fell between us, I figured he was waiting for me to continue on.

“Partially. School and the appointment brought me here.”

“Ah, I see.” Gerald kissed my head. “The appointment was for something you don’t believe in?”

“It’s not that,” I sighed heavily. “The appointment would have come at a great emotional cost.”

“A cost you couldn’t handle no matter the monetary amount?”

“No, no matter--” My words quickly cut off and I looked up at Gerald in horror.

“There are very few companies in that building, Kaylee,” he whispered, giving me an apologetic look.

My stomach knotted and I felt like I was going to be sick because... Gerald knew. He knew why I was there.
