“Gerald!” I screamed one final time before Gerald rolled off me and pulled me into his arms.

“So beautiful,” he said, kissing the side of my head. “So perfect.”

“You’re super sexy,” I yawned, making him laugh.

“Tired, baby?”

“Mmhmm.”

“Good,” he kissed my lips, “Get some sleep, beautiful. Tomorrow is a new day.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Kaylee. Kaylee. Kaylee, a man’s voice called to me in my slumber. His voice sounded so soothing, making me want to stay asleep forever.

Gerald?I asked, finally registering who the owner of the peaceful voice belonged to.

Yes. It’s me, Kaylee,Gerald chuckled.I’m heading to work. Stay here. I have Antonio coming to cook you breakfast and lunch.

Mmhmm, I said dreamy-like.

Kaylee, seriously, I’m leaving for work,he laughed. I felt my body move slightly back and forth.Wake up, sleepy head, so I know you’re actually listening to me.

His voice sounded so real. I didn’t see him; only heard him.

Where are you?I yawned.

Open your eyes, baby.

Why would I open my eyes? Why couldn’t we keep talking here in my--

“Fuck,” I groaned, sitting up in the bed with my eyes open. Gerald was sitting next to me on the bed, grinning.

“Sorry. I thought I was dreaming,” I whispered.

“It’s okay,” he leaned over and kissed my lips swiftly.

“If you give me a minute or so, I’ll get dressed and grab my stuff.” I shoved the cover off of me, and started to work my way around Gerald to get off the bed.

“No, ma’am,” he said, grabbing me and putting me back in my spot.

“No?” My eyebrow rose.

“I want you to stay here today.”

My heart skipped a beat and thebutterfliesfilled my stomach. After a sharp breath and realization of what Gerald was saying, my heart pounded like a drum. It pounded so loud it sounded like it was inside my head. Anxiety raced through me and the room felt like it was spinning.

“Kaylee,” Gerald said softly, taking hold of my hands. “Breathe.”

I nodded my head.

“If you aren’t comfortable staying here without me then I can have my assistant pick you up some new clothes, bring them here, and then you can come to work with me,” he kissed the top of one of my hands.

Gerald made everything so simple. Like he could wave a magic wand and make anything happen. Maybe he was serious about his proposal afterall. Last night, I had been too shocked by his words to really take him seriously.

“You were serious about the proposal weren’t you?” I gulped.

“Of course,” he gave me a funny look. “Why would I joke about something like that?”
