“You don’t understand,” he said. “I told you we weren’t going to do anything like that again until we’d at least gone on a first date.”
“Yeah, I know you did.”
“And then I lost control. I caved in because I’m human and can fight my own urges only so much. I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t mean to be a tease.”
“A tease? Wait, are you saying you’re gonna start withholding sex now?”
I fake-gasped, clutching my heart, and trying hard not to laugh.
“I don’t owe you sex, dude, but if you want to call it withholding sex, then go right ahead. That’s just until we’ve had a first date.”
“Newsflash, Erik, wedidhave one. Where the hell were you?”
He paused like he didn’t know what the heck I was talking about.
“The whole reason I had you over to my place was so we could be alone,” I said, “and in an atmosphere more perfect than you’ll ever get in public. I made sure you had a romantic, homemade meal with wine and even a candle.”
“I hadn’t thought of it that way.”
“Wait a second, I went to all that trouble, and it never once occurred to you that maybe I had something else in mind?”
“I figured you were hoping for sex.”
“Well…yeah, I definitely thought of that. But I knew you wanted a first date before we went at it like a couple of jackrabbits again.”
“Lovely.”
“I just wanted to make sure I gave you something nice.”
“It was definitely nice. You really threw me off guard. It was like you’d suddenly turned into a sweet, thoughtful human being.”
“I’ll pretend you didn’t say that.”
“Why, because I’ve got a point?”
“No, because anyone who knows how to use their dick like you do deserves some slack.”
He couldn’t help smiling. Good to see he took some pride in his sexual prowess.
“Look,” I said, “if you don’t believe me…”
“I believe you, dude. I believe you. And thank you. I really appreciate it.”
I leaned in and kissed him. For the first time, I did it casually and not in a fit of passion. I didn’t even glance around to see if anyone could see us. It felt normal. I felt a little tense after, though, knowing I was drawing ever closer to the point of no return. I’d almost crossed that line when Joe had nearly caught us together. I’m sure he knew the story I’d given him was bullshit, but he wouldn’t have guessed I had had sex with a guy.
But that could all change one day. You know, if Erik and I kept this up?
I would have to explain everything, which wouldn’t be easy.
“We need to go on a real date,” he said.
“That dinner wasn’t real enough for you?”
“It was very sweet and special, sure. I just think we need to have a normal one…in public.”
“You’re lucky you’re so good in bed, bro.”
He smiled.
