Twenty minutes later, the boat coasted its way to the small inlet at Barnum Bay.

“The farm is a fifteen minutes’ walk from here,” Dianne informed them, leading the way up the shore. The trio made their way toward the town.

When they finally made it to the farm, Rory was completely bowled over. From what she could already see, the large, colonial-style farmhouse was completely surrounded by farmed plots and bordered by evergreens and edges.

“Hi. Welcome to K farm. I’m Kim. Are you here for the wine tasting or ziplining?” a brunette with a bright smile welcomed.

“We’re here for both,” Dianne spoke up.

“Excellent,” she replied with a smile. “You’ll need these,” she held out some square papers to them.

They reached for the sheets and scanned them.

“This is a list of the wines and a description of the aging process for you to have a better understanding and appreciation of the tasting,” Kim further explained.

“Is this real? This wine is over eighty years old?” Trey looked back at the woman seriously as he pointed to one of the wines on the list.

“That is correct,” Kim affirmed. “Not only is it very old, but it is an original product of this farm,” she finished proudly.

“That’s cool,” Trey nodded his head.

“May I have your IDs to verify your ages? We can’t serve alcohol to anyone under twenty-one,” Kim informed them.

At this, Trey’s face fell.

Rory snickered. “Look at the bright side Trey. You still have ziplining.”

“Yeah. Whatever,” he replied, annoyed.

Rory couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled to the surface as she watched her soon-to-be stepbrother sulk over something he hadn’t been enthused about in the first place.

They were going to have a lot of fun today; she was sure of it.

“Hi, sweetie. How was your time out with Dianne and Trey?”

“Hi, Mom.” Rory planted a kiss on Andrea’s cheek and walked around her. “It was great. I had a lot of fun,” she replied, opening the refrigerator and poking her head inside. She reached for a can of soda.

Andrea stopped stirring the pot that sat on the stove to look over at her daughter. “And Trey?”

Rory straightened and turned to her mother, who was staring expectantly back at her. “He had fun, too,” she smirked.

“Rory, you know I’m asking for more than that,” her mother pressed.

“We got along, Mom. He talked a lot about his dad and…”

Andrea’s head slowly dipped, her chin almost touching her chest as she looked over at her daughter hopefully.

“He said he likes you a lot. You’re really nice, and he thinks you’re good for Donny.”

Andrea’s face broke out into a broad smile. “He really said that?”

Rory nodded, her face breaking out in a smile. “Trust me, Mom. If Donny was going to propose to you right now, you won’t get any objections— at least not from Trey,” she assured her.

Surprise danced in Andrea’s eyes as she took a step back. “Who said anything about a proposal…wait, did he say his father is planning to propose? I-I-we…but…” Andrea’s words faltered. She looked at her daughter with dread. “I’m not ready…we’re not ready.”

Rory held up her hands to calm her mother. “Mom, relax. Trey didn’t say anything about Donny planning to propose. I was just saying he wouldn’t object to it.”
