“I want to see him,” I said abruptly, ready to fight for the right to be by his side.

Orin raised his hand. “Commander Krin and I have already had a conversation about it, and I am to accompany you to his suite. You can wait there for him.”

I was relieved I didn’t have to fight to see Trex. “Thank you, Orin.”

“It is only right. You are Alara’s future Queen, and you should be with your King.”

Dimples I didn’t know he had appeared as he wore an adorable grin. It marked the first smile I had ever seen from him.

I wasn’t used to seeing this side of the young warrior, but I suspected it was because of his crush on Olivia. It was clear shedidn’t want to acknowledge it, although I saw her giving him flirty looks, too.

“Krin is going to stand guard with Kagen,” Orin said to Olivia when he noticed her watching him.

Giving him a shy smile, she nodded.

He turned to me. “I will stand guard outside Trex’s rooms.”

“Okay, Let’s go then.”

I smiled and followed Orin into the corridor. “Who was that medic with Rekna?” I asked as I glanced up at his profile.

Orin shrugged, but didn’t look at me. “He’s new to the palace. I don’t know him.”

Then it hit me.He’s the medic Trex mentioned. Shit, I should have figured it out.

“Do you think he knows I’m Trex’s mate?”Of course he knows...that’s why he looked at me that way. I’m so stupid.

The warrior shook his head. “It doesn’t matter. He is a royal medic and is not likely to tell anyone.”

My mouth twisted to one side. For some reason, I had my doubts, but I still hoped Orin was right.

REKNA WAS BY MY SIDEwhen I woke up, his face showing deep concern. “You’re finally conscious,” he said, stating the obvious, but his tone conveyed his sense of relief.

I winced and shifted my injured shoulder. It was tender, but the wound had been closed and it was healing rapidly thanks to our medical technology.

I sat up and looked around the room. Two guards stood at the entrance to the infirmary, but Rekna was the only medic in sight.

He took a step back. “You will be fine, but should take it easy with that shoulder for a while. The wound was severe and done at close range. You are lucky the monk was a poor shot. Any closer to your heart and you would have been in trouble.” His face belied how close I’d come to death.

I swallowed and my thoughts turned to Grace.

“Your K’sha is waiting in your room,” said Rekna.

With a nod, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood. “Is the monk in a cell? Has anyone interrogated him?” I asked, glancing at Rekna.

“He is being held, but Commander Krin thought it best to wait until you were ready to speak with the suspect yourself.”

“Fine.” I headed for the door. First, I needed to see my K’sha and let her know I was okay.

GRACE’S FACE IMMEDIATELYbrightened when she saw me in the main room of my suite. She rushed over to me, embracingme tightly and resting her head on my chest. My heart warmed at the contact.

I wrapped my good arm around her and stroked her back with my wounded arm.

“I was so worried.” Her voice was muffled as she pressed against my chest.
