“That’s not his ‘I want to be annoying or I’m hungry’ bark, Jack. That’s his ‘I will tear your fucking ass apart if you don’t back the fuck away’ bark. Someone’s outside.”

At that revelation, Jack followed Jenniffer’s actions. They both put their pants on, Jenniffer adding her shirt, before they departed the room. Jack watched, as Jenniffer snapped her fingers getting Spock’s attention as he came to her side awaiting her command.

Once they were in the living room and hyper aware of their surroundings, they both heard the dogs in the kennels at their housing area going apeshit as well. “Sounds like whoever it is, they are down by the kennel area.” Jack advised, letting Jenniffer know they were on the same page.

“Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too.” Jenniffer pulled out her cell, hitting 9-1-1 on it and then putting the phone back into her back pocket as she moved forward, Jack and Spock at her side.

When they got close to the housing area for the other dogs that were in training, all hell broke loose. “Shit, that’s smoke!” Jack stated, trying to keep his voice and panic under control.

“They’re trying to kill the dogs!” Jenniffer seethed. “You and Spock do your search, I’m getting the dogs out of the kennels!”

“Jenn…” Jack started to tell Jenniffer to get back into the house, to safety, but he knew that would end things between them before things even started. “Be careful. Spock and I will do a search around the property near the kennels and then I’ll be back to help you.”

Jack pulled Jenniffer in for a deep, hard kiss before letting her go. Giving the command for Spock to seek, they took off into the dead of the night as Jenniffer raced the rest of the way to the kennels.

Two hours later, Jenniffer and Jack were standing around the yard with Dom, his sister Laura and her teammate Lindsey. Spock and Hercules at their feet, panting and watching their surroundings.

“The warehouse is a complete loss, not to mention the kennels melted and unusable. How are the dogs?” Lindsey ‘Ice’ Raso-MacLeod asked, sympathy in her eyes as she acknowledged Jenniffer.

“Only lost two, two more are in critical condition. The vet is hopeful though.” Jenniffer answered, looking over at the pen area she usually lets the dogs into when she’s cleaning the kennels out. Out of the twelve dogs she’d had, two were at her feet, two had died from the fire that had been set in the kennel by the unknown assailant, two were at the vets emergency hospital fighting for their lives and the remaining six were laying down, heads on their paws.

“Damn it. I’m pissed about Xena. She was a damn good dog!” Dom said angrily, his arms crossed at his chest.

“The fire fighter I spoke with said that seemed to be where the fire started.” Jack said, pulling Jenniffer into his arms, rubbing his hands up and down her back, comforting her.

“I’m not looking forward to having to call Chief Monroe back and letting him know the new officer he sends is going to be without a dog until I can get one of the other two up to speed. Xena and Zorro were the only two that was ready to be assigned to someone. The new officer would have had a choice between those two. Zorro just completed his training yesterday. Xena is gone and Zorro is now fighting for his life. He may never be able to work after this. I’ll have to reassess him once the vet gives him the clearance. That’s going to set me back months,if, he’s not able to work.”

“New officer?” Laura ‘Red’ Pratt-MacLeod asked, confusion in her voice. “I thought Dom said twatsyphilis Tabitha Monroe was assigned to Xena?”

“Twatsyphilis?” Jenniffer asked, choking on a cross between laughter and tears.

“Yeah, she’s a twat who probably has syphilis because she likes to fuck her way around the department instead of doing her damn job. So put them together and she’s a twatsyphilis.” Pratt shrugged, winking at Jenniffer.

Jenniffer chuckled, shaking her head slightly. “She was assigned to Xena. But, yesterday, after training, I had called the chief and informed him that it just wasn’t going to work. I admitted to him that she just wasn’t bonding with the dog, and I was afraid that with the agitation between the two it would be a disaster. Hell, she wouldn’t even take the dog home with her. Xena stayed here with me.”

“Oh shit!” Dom exclaimed, looking over at Jack, whose own eyes were wide in shock at the news.

“What?” Jenniffer, Pratt and Raso all asked at the same time.

“Because Jenn called the chief, stating that it just wasn’t going to work with Monroe and whatever dog she was assigned to and that she wasn’t bonding with her new partner, that means the chief kicked Monroe off the force. K-9 was her last chance before daddy fired her.” Jack announced to the three women.

“I thought she was a daddy’s girl?” Dom asked, scratching his head in confusion.

“Actually, the opposite.” Jenniffer informed Dom. “Like Jack said, K-9 was her last chance before her father lowered the boom on her. He kept giving her chance after chance because of her mother. She’s a momma’s girl. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, the parents are going through a divorce. That’s being done quietly because the chief found out about the mother’s affair with another officer. I’m surprised the rumor of the threesome between mother and daughter with one of officers hasn’t made it’s rounds.”

“Wait, you’re not talking about Officer Kettleman, are you?” Raso asked, shock in her voice. “Ew! That nimrod did both motheranddaughter? I’d only heard about him with the daughter.” Raso fake vomited as Jack and Dom looked over Raso in shock at the news.

“Yeah, that’s the dumbass. Sarge and I had to go serve him paperwork on his firing for the chief since he’s trying to keep it on the downlow. He knows our reputation so asked the captain to have us serve the paperwork so it would look like we were talking to him about a case. He was fired and expected to speak at the divorce hearing since the wife is contesting it, claiming false information. Apparently, wifey and daughter didn’t know the dipshit recorded the whole thing. He was bragging about it to a buddy of his who happens to be the son of one of the chief’s best friends.” Pratt informed the group, shaking her head, gagging at the image in her head.

“I know she’s trying to take the chief for every penny she can, and then some.” Raso commented, recovering from her willy nilly antics at the news.

“Wait, you don’t think…” Dom started before he looked over at the still smoldering warehouse that had once housed the sixteen kennels for the dogs to be trained.

“No, Monroe wouldn’t do it herself. She’d fuck someone stupid and have him do it.” Pratt told her brother, confirming Jack’s theory as well.

“I agree with Laura. Monroe doesn’t like to do the dirty work herself. Plausible deniability.” Jack agreed with Pratt.

Jenniffer sighed deeply. “It may not have even been her.”
