“We come baring gifts and information.” Captain Kathrine Irby announced, giving Jack a quick wink. “I met Jenniffer earlier today and liked her immediately. When Diesel told me she was yours, and that the team had adopted her, she became mine also.”

“Great, now he’s gonna turn into a sissy and start tearing up because you decided to be all sweet.” Cheryl Diesel quipped when she saw Jack look at the captain in shock.

“Shut up, Diesel!” Captain Irby fired back, smacking the woman on the back of the head as she walked past. “Ignore the peanut gallery. We’ll find her. You know my girls are like a rabid Rottie when they sink their teeth in something.”

“I know. That’s the only thing giving me hope right now.” Jack murmured to the woman who was like a mother to him.

“Food then information. Now!” Pratt ordered, pointing towards the kitchen, cutting whatever Jack was about to say off. “Let’s get the kids settled with their dinner, get our plates fixed and situated and then we will share the information we’ve found. We won’t do her any good if we’re hangry and out of energy.”

“Bossy much?” Jack fired out, walking behind Pratt, sulking.

“Every day that ends in ‘y’, lad. Every day that ends in ‘y’” Highlander chuckled, hands up in the air when his wife turned around to glare at him.

Jack and the men laughed when Pratt stuck her tongue out at her husband as she shoved a plate into his hands. Once the kids were settled at the kitchen table, the rest made their plates and got a drink before settling into the living room with their food.

“Ok, kids are settled. I can’t eat, honestly.” Jack sighed, sitting back in his seat.

“Miller has nowhere to go, nor does Kimberlee. We’ve all made calls and have some people on the street as we speak looking at locations that they would have taken her. Captain Irby also made some calls herself for security footage at nearby locations. Brody is even doing his thing for the cameras at the department. So far nothing has been found on anything, but they aren’t giving up. So, neither should you. My gut tells me Miller and Kimberlee have her since they’ve exhausted all avenues to get Jenn to pony up the money they feel that they are owed. I hate to say it, but I don’t think Jeff was on the up and up with Jenn about everything.” Pratt admitted, putting her plate onto the coffee table and taking a sip of her drink.

“I did some checking around with some of the recon teams I know at base. Miller was not a very well-liked person among the teams. He was shady, always needing to borrow money, never paying those who were stupid enough to loan him the money back. He was even said to have slept with a couple of teammates girls behind their back. It was rumored that there was something going on with him and Kimberlee, but no one could prove it at the time. They think that Miller and Jeff got into it over the girl when Kimberlee set her sights on Jeff. Kimberlee likes to play games with the men she’s doing. Especially if she can get them fighting amongst themselves over her, the hotter she gets.” Marcus informed the group, putting his plate down.

“What the fuck did Jeff see in that woman? I mean, you’ve all met Jenn. She’s an amazing woman. I’ve only seen one photo of her in uniform, the one she has by her bedside with her dog Axel, but that woman was seriously fucking hot in uniform. Kimberlee is, well, she’s nothing I would’ve look twice at.” Jack said, his face scrunching up at the memory of Kimberlee.

“Has anyone tried tracking her phone?” Sgt. Helen Brocard asked, looking around the room at her team.

“Yeah, we had Brody try but it’s off as far as we can tell. He’s going to keep an eye on the phone, see if it comes back online. If it does, then he’ll notify us immediately.” Alexis Rameriez answered, taking a quick drink of her soda.

“I can’t lose her guys. I know it’s only been a week, but I knew it the moment I laid eyes on her. I love her. She’s it for me.” Jack admitted to the group.

“Yeah, we know.” Pratt answered, standing up to go check on the kids.

Several minutes later, she came running back into the room. “Brody has a fix on her phone. It came back online. Guys, it’s here on the property.”

“What? We’ve checked the property several times…” Jack questioned, standing up.

“They must have been watching us from near the property line, someplace we couldn’t have noticed them. There were a few places like that.” Dom advised, trying to appease Jack.

“Rameriez and I will stay here to watch over the kids, along with the dogs. With Kane, Zeus and Demon already protective of the girls in this clan, no one is gonna get near those kids, even if they get past us.” Captain Irby announced, moving along with Rameriez towards the kitchen.

Everyone stood up, checked their weapons that they were still loaded down with and paired up, several going out the front door, and several going out the back door, surrounding the location that Jenniffer’s phone pinged, according to Brody.

CHAPTERFOURTEEN

Jenniffer woke up, her head pounding as if someone had beat the ever-loving shit out of her. When she woke up, she realized her hands were zip tied in front of her, as well as her feet. She stirred slightly, realizing she was on the ground, a grassy area with a few trees nearby. She recognized the area, because it was where she had spread Axel’s ashes once she had bought the property. This was her peaceful place, to come and talk to her best friend when things got to be too much without him at her side. She was on her property, not far from the house.

Mentally she was kicking herself for running from Jack, instead of facing him and that Monroe chick head on. If she had done that, would she be in this situation right now or would they have taken both her and Jack, using him against her to get what they want? No, it was better, now that she thought of it, that Jack wasn’t her with her. He would have a chance to move on, find someone to make him happy.

Shit, why did that make her so damn sad to think like that? She wanted him happy with her, damn it. She deserved to be happy for once in her life. Her mother and father were gone. They had been killed in a car accident when she was seventeen, when she turned eighteen, she joined the Marine Corps to have a life since she wouldn’t have been able to afford college. Maybe that’s why when Jeff showered her with attention, she ate it up instead of listening to all those blaring red flags that were lighting up in front of her. Shit! Her life was one big fucking mess right now. She had to find a way out of this.

“Ah, you’re awake. Finally. Let me go tell Ty so we can get the party started. I’m bored with this shit and want it to end now.” Kimberlee said cheerfully as she sauntered away.

Jenniffer moved to sit up when she realized her phone was still tucked into her bra. Grabbing it, she turned it on, dialing 9-1-1 and then tucking it back into her bra when she heard Kimberlee yelling at Miller about what needs to happen so they can get the hell way from this place.

“Good, you’re awake. Now this is what needs to happen. You’re going to do a goodbye letter, stating you just couldn’t handle the nightmares anymore, you miss your mutt and Jeff way too much and you’re signing everything over to Kimberlee and her kid since they were the true loves of Jeff’s fucking life and then I’ll help you overdose on some night night pills.”

“You really are a fucking moron aren’t you, Miller? No one is going to believe I offed myself over his ass, nor the fucking lawsuit. There’s also the issue of my death, under California state law, my assets stay frozen for a fucking year before you can collect anything on it, meaning the taxes will eat up anything this place is worth and you’ll be forced to sell since she will have to pay said taxes on this damn place, nor will she be able to collect any money on this property for a solid year to pay said taxes since it would be frozen in probate.”

“You’re a liar!” Kimberlee screamed, stomping her foot, glaring at Jenniffer.
