I looked at the clock on the wall. “They need to come, we don’t want to mount a rescue. We want all of it to be good, a normal life for once, for the timeline to be ordered and stable.”
Beaty walked through the room. “I hae been praying on it, Queen Kaitlyn, I haena asked for m’self, but for the bairns, for there tae be peace and a timeline that is nae in disarray, tae calm our minds.”
“Yes, we need to calm our minds.”

Beaty dyed her hair a vivid blue. Sophie helped and had blue hair-dye staining her hands. Beaty was frantically tying a bow around Mookie’s neck. “Ye must be handsome, Finch Mac is comin’!”
We met to talk about our story. Sophie asked, “Why haena James and Quentin returned yet?”
Magnus said, “They will be back soon, I am sure of it, daena worry.”
I said, “Again, how the hell did any of this happen?”
We all looked over at Hayley.
She said, “I panicked!”
I said, “We just need to concentrate, get our stories straight. We are all just normal people here on vacation, right?”
Hayley said, “Someone needs to coach the kids, no time travel.”
Fraoch said, “Make sure Og Lochie daena run his mouth, he is goin’ tae start trouble.”
Hayley said, “When did everyone move here from Scotland? Make sure you have a date set in your mind.”
Magnus said, “I moved here in 2017, Kaitlyn and I are the Duke and Duchess of Awe.”
Fraoch said, “When did that happen, Og Maggy?”
“Lady Mairead arranged for us tae receive the title, she told me about it when I was in the hospital.” He looked around at our disbelief. “Tis a real current title, ye can see it listed in Burke's Peerage.”
He joked, “But be quiet on it, I am going tae tell Colonel Quentin I haealwaysbeen the Duke of Awe, he will think tis maddening and twill be funny.”
Fraoch said, “I moved here three years later.”
Magnus said, “And Lochinvar is fresh, movin’ here just the other day.” We looked over at Lochinvar, flicking the light switch up and down confusedly.
Magnus added, “Lochinvar, be verra verra quiet.”
Lochinvar switched the lights off. “Aye, I will listen more and speak less, like ye said — how does this light work?”
I ignored him. “What if James and Quentin return while we are at dinner?”
Magnus said, “Fraoch and I will discreetly go up tae the field tae meet them.”
We all checked our watches or the clock on the wall.
I said, “Where are they? Shouldn’t they be back by now?”
Emma said, “Some of us need to change. We are wearing so many sweats, in too many colors, we look ridiculous.”
