A short walk back to the room and a million silent promises later, we returned to the hotel room.

Before she could make it back into the crowded suite, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back out into my body.

“We probably go handle some shit tonight after Em falls asleep. You want me to drop you off at home, or you staying up here?”

“I don’t wanna be at the house alone. I’ll stay up here.”

I looked at her for a few moments, before leaning down and mashing my lips against hers. Had to love on mine in even the longest of fucking times because it was only right.

About two hours went by, before Em’s folks left and Em fell asleep. That was the perfect time to handle business and be back before she opened her eyes. That way my boy wouldn’t find himself in a fucked-up position and the danger she didn’t realize lurked wouldn’t lurk any longer.

“Life dead ass has a way of showing you what’s important and what really ain’t,” Zero spoke aloud as we drove in the direction of where we were supposed to be meeting Gram. Turns out Givens thought it smart to hold up in a hotel a few minutes from his house. Nigga thought he gave Gram and the boys the slip, but he didn’t. If anything they switched it up on him at my request. After Zero got that call from him about an Op I decided to switch it up and let him think that it was called off. I had Gram and the boys switch up the car but stay on his ass. I didn’t give a fuck if the nigga went to work, he had a tail.

“Don’t it? You’re a whole ass father out here now.”

He laughed. “I know. Shit has me all in my head, not wanting to be a damn thing like either one of my parents.”

“And you won’t. You know that shit, bro. You know fucked up parents, so nothing in you could be anything like either oneof their asses. Plus if you find yo’self off square, best believe y’all got me.”

He nodded. “I feel that shit.”

“Betta.”

For the rest of the drive we made small talk, talking about everything under the sun. Lowkey our minds were at ease because we both knew what tonight was. Not only did it mark the birth of his children, but the night we’d be getting from under this problem that had been hunting us for the last few months. Shining some sun through a dark cloud.

Gram saidGivens was at a motel, held up under an alias. One that he didn’t think would give him away. Funny thing is it didn’t matter what his fucking name was. He never lost his tail. We pulled up in front of that motel on Roosevelt where more niggas tricked in the rooms than at the grocery store up the block. Niggas was sick.

When we parked right next to the Buick gram had been held up in. The windows came down seconds later and his psychotic ass was sitting there smiling and shit like a kid at a fucking amusement park.

“Way I see it is he’s on an all-expense paid vacation from his bitch because this motherfucker done had bitches rolling in and out of here all damn day. Getting more pussy than me at this point.”

Ro chuckled. “Then let’s get this shit done so you can hit a block and go pay for you some pussy too.”

“Fucking around and have to after messing with y’all’s ass.” He hopped out of the car at the same time as we did.

A good chuckle later we were approaching the door of the room he was staying in.

“He preoccupied?” I asked looking at Gram.

“Nah, last one left a few minutes before you called, but I got this.” He held up a key, seconds before he slid it in the door. “This place ain’t got no cameras or shit like that, so we can get this done and it’ll be like we were never here.”

Ro nodded. “Then let’s put a move on it.”

Gram opened the door a second later. For a motherfucker who was in ear of their life, this nigga was surly sloppy. As a matter of fact as a detective this nigga moved sloppy. When we walked in, he was laid across the bed on his stomach seemingly passed out. Then one of them turned the light on, and that’s when I saw it.

Blood pooled around the body, spilling from the knife wounds loitering his back. Somebody beat us to it.

I looked over at Gram, who stared at the body in disbelief. “Hell nah, the female who left this bitch was about a buck twenty at the most. No way she could’ve done this.” He shook his head.

“Well whomever did it wasn’t us, which means we need to be getting the fuck up outta here,” Ro’s voice was followed by the sound of his footsteps leading away.

He was right, and I followed his ass out of the door. Givens had pissed a lot of niggas off hiding behind that badge, so you never know who caught his ass and checked his ass out. All I knew was it was time for me to take my ass home or wherever I was sleeping and for once in what felt like forever get a good night’s rest.

TAREE

My sister was released from the hospital a day later, and of course we were all surrounding her. All in the house happy andfucking ecstatic for the newest additions to our family. She hated being crowded, but we weren’t crowding her, we were crowding them. They were so little and cute.

“So, you gonna take that test now or keep walking around here like it ain’t there,” Empress pressed from the sofa.
