“Me, too.”

“I don’t know what else to do, but I’m not leaving here without you.”

“I don’t know what to do either.”

“Then we’ll take it one day at a time and not jump to any quick endings.”

“Okay,” she said.

“Okay?”

“Yes.”

“Trust me?”

“I do.”

“Only rule is, you can’t come running back here if we argue. You know we’re going to argue.”

She gave a flash of a smile. “It’s kind of what we do.”

He chuckled softly. “Let’s just see what happens. Let’s see if we can both be adults.”

She nodded.

“Go pack a few things, let’s go home.”

“Okay.”

“Mom, Dad! I’m going to Barron’s!” she called out.

“We heard, honey. That’s fine. Just keep in touch, daily. Like your sister does,” Everly called back.

“I will.”

She looked at Barron.

“Go on, now. I’m waiting. I’ll help you carry whatever you need.”

“I’m scared.”

“Me, too. So fucking much. In case you haven’t noticed, my mate is kind of difficult.”

Emmalyn burst out laughing. “Okay. Give me a minute.”

Everly and Bam stood in their bedroom with their ears pressed against their door, listening to the conversation going on between their youngest daughter and her mate. A young manthey’d watched grow up and respected immensely. Bam, despite the fingers stuck in his ears, still strained to listen.

“You could hear more if you’d take your fingers out of your ears,” Everly said.

“I don’t want to hear some of that.”

“You have to hear all of it, in order to hear some of it.”

Bam backed away from the door and sat down heavily on their bed.

“You alright?” Everly asked.
