And I couldn’t have done that—not if it meant losing Hector.
ChapterTwenty-Nine
It’s time.No more secrets.
Nerves thrum in my throat as I move the bed and remove Hectors cloak and lay it on the mattress. I turn back to face him and allow him to see my secret—the gift he didn’t know he gave me before I left with Everly.
Lines deepen across Hector’s brow as he stares at me, his gaze locked on my stomach. I shift my weight, but his stare doesn’t budge.
“The Seer said I’m carrying twins,” I say the words in a rush.
His attention doesn’t lift from my body, nor does he speak.
“They are yours.” I swallow and continue.“Of course, they are yours. I’m incapable of looking at or wanting another man. You know that. That’s probably why you chose the tattoo you did.”Stop it. You’re rambling.Unfortunately, my mouth seems unable to stop.“Though, I am not angry that you chose this tattoo. I enjoy knowing I am the only woman you’ll bed.”
His eyes trace over me, but still, he doesn’t speak. Maybe he forgot how.
I twist my fingers together and shift my weight from foot to foot. “Hector, please say something.”
A muscle pulses in his jaw as he finally finds his voice. “Why didn’t you tell me when you first returned?”
I shake my head. “You pushed me away when I first returned.”
“Is that your excuse?” Pain burns behind his question, sending a river of guilt plunging into my chest.
The reality of it crashes through me. Hector is in pain, and he’s desperately trying to mask it. That’s why he’s being so indifferent.
“It’s my truth, Hector,” I say softly, not wishing to upset him further.
He frowns and looks away.
“Hector.” Boldly, I step closer to him and grab his hand. Relief flows through me when he doesn’t pull away. He even allows me to bring his hand to my stomach. “Do you not feel this life we created?”
His jaw clenches as he stares down at me, his eyes flickering with a myriad of emotions I cannot explain.
“It changes everything,” I whisper.
He spreads his fingers over the width of my stomach. “You do realize I will not allow you to go again. I will be selfish and—”
I wrap my arms around his neck and pull his mouth to mine, smothering his words. All those days before now vanish, leaving me with just this moment. With him. With this bond threading between us. It was never going to fade. It was always there, pulling us back together.
Surely, he feels it. Those threads that defied time—past and future.
He lifts me up and places me on the desk. I wrap my legs around his waist as our tongues meet. All the pent-up desire floods out of me, fueling an insatiable hunger. A hunger for him. For his touch. For his body inside mine.
Hector’s hands rove over me, making their way under my surcoat. I moan as his fingers brush against my nipples, already hard and aching for his touch.
He breaks the kiss and trails hot kisses down my neck. “Hades, Sol. I have missed touching you.”
With one swift motion, Hector sweeps everything off his desk and lays me down on the smooth surface. His hands roam over my body, tracing every curve and dip with practiced ease. I arch into his touch, aching for more.
“Hector,” I gasp. “Please.”
He hooks his fingers into my bodice and tugs it down, exposing my breasts. He stares down for a moment before he dips his head and draws a nipple into his mouth.
I moan at the pleasure of it, grasping the back of his head to urge him on. He nips at my nipple as he reaches for my surcoat and yanks it to my waist. In another swift move, he frees himself and pulls my thighs apart.
He slams into me, and I cry out as he fills me completely, but not in pain, in happiness. In complete and utter happiness. I have longed for this. Needed this.
