“Forgive me.” He runs a shaky hand across his surcoat. “I shouldn’t have kissed you when you had too much to drink.”
“Don’t leave.” The words come out as a plea. “I don’t care if I have had too much. I want this.”
Those eyes lock on mine, longing burning there. “When I have you, I want you to remember every moment.” With those words, he quits the tent, leaving me with a throbbing ache in my center and a headache.
Well, in fairness, I’m certain it’s the wine that has caused the headache.
I flop against my mattress and sigh into the stillness. Hector should bed me.
Soon.
Please let it be soon.
ChapterFifteen
Last night was a mistake. A big, colossal mistake. A mountain of a mistake.
You fool!
What were you thinking?
Now, Hector will think I want him to bed me.
I sigh and glance up as the object of my thoughts steps into the tent. Hector. My barbarian husband. The man who confuses me more and more every day.
Things were easier when I hated him.
“Last night was a mistake.” The foolish words escape my lips in a rush.
Hector hikes an eyebrow as he crosses the tent and unshackles me.
Unconsciously, I rub my leg and take a deep breath before continuing. “I had too much to drink. I would have flirted with anyone.”
“Anyone?” His eyebrow rises even higher.
“Oh, yes. Anyone.”Liar.
“Would you have sucked on anyone’s thumb?” he asks, his voice stirring memories of last night.
I groan. “Did I really do that?”
Mirth twinkles in his eyes. “Yes, you did. And I must confess, I rather enjoyed it.” The smirk on his face tells me he knows exactly how his words will affect me.
Mortification blooms across my face as I look away. I can’t believe I drank so much, and now I’m stuck with the consequences.
He continues to embarrass me. “Though, I admit, I’m more interested in your offer to suck on other parts of my body.”
I gasp and jerk back to face him. “I didn’t.”
The smile twitching at his lips is nearly my undoing.
“You’re being cruel,” I grumble.
“Cruel?” He shakes his head. “Cruel is tasting your sweetness and knowing I had to walk away.”
My shoulders droop as I hunch forward, staring down at my feet. “I’m sorry.”
“Sol.” He closes the space between us and pulls me against him. “Don’t apologize.”
