Shades of pink wash over my cheeks, and Adonis pulls me in closer and smiles at my discomfort.
I find Jules dancing with a woman. I’d notice that long white hair anywhere.
“Amelia?! What are you doing here?” I drop Adonis’ hand as I approach her and Jules. She smiles at me and embraces me in a tight hug.
“Dani! So good to see you! The guys told me they were heading out tonight and I felt left out. So, I invited myself and found this beautiful woman to dance with.” Amelia shimmies her body down Jules’.
“How do you guys know one another?” Jules shouts over the loud music.
“Oh, I’m practically Adonis, Dax, and Killian’s little sister. Known them forever!”
My heart races with the thought that Amelia could possibly bring Jules into this secret life that I’m keeping from my best friend.
“Relax, Dani. I’ll treat her right. Go, have fun.” Amelia says, assuring me that everything is ok.
I trust her.
“Alright, you two have fun,” I say as Jules is fanning her face and mouthing the words, ‘she’s hot’ behind Amelias back. Amelia smiles. Did she somehow sense that?
I hug them both goodbye.
As I turn to leave the dance floor a man stops me and grabs my waist, groping my ass. “Hey, hot stuff! Let’s dance.” His blonde hair falls in his face and he re-pops his collar as he grinds against me.
Ew.
“No thank you. I don’t dance with douchebags.”
He grips my waist harder, “You wanna play hard to get? I can get down with that!”
I see Adonis walking towards us.
Oh, fuck.
“Listen, my boyfriend is coming right now, so you better go before he beats your ass.”
Popped Collar looks behind him and sees a very angry Adonis walking towards him. He quickly lets me go and heads over to the bar.
I stop Adonis with my hands on his chest. “I can handle myself. I’m going to find Carter and then we can leave.”
Adonis doesn’t say a word. He won’t even look at me. His eyes are set on that man.
I walk around, searching for Carter. He finds me before I find him. “Dani, hey! I want to talk to you. Um, you’re okay, right?” He asks as his hand touches my shoulder.
“I was just leaving. Yes, I’m okay.” I place my hand on his shoulder, mimicking him, “I promise. I am… happy. I am actually happy for once in my life. Please don’t make a big deal out of this. I just want your and Jules’ support.”
Carter sighs and pulls me in a hug. “I will always support you, Dani. You’re my best friend. I don’t want to see you get hurt, that’s all. Three guys is a lot to handle. They seem so… I don’t know, possessive?”
I try not to smile at his observation because I know he is right.
I pull away from his hug and take his hand in mine. “I know, Carter, and thank you for your concern. But I’m okay. Really. I can handle them.” I smile up at him, his brown eyes searching mine.
“Go have fun with Destiny! She is super into you,” I squeeze his hand and then drop it.
“I’m into her too. I’m going to ask her to be my girlfriend. I just worry about you is all.”
“That’s great, Carter!” I exclaim. “I got this under control. Please, don’t worry. I’m heading out. Enjoy the rest of your night!”
“Alright, get home safe.”
