“Yes, this is indeed his,” Amelia replies, gesturing toward the softly-lit chamber. “I’ve been informed that you will be occupying this room. It holds a profound essence of magic, so tread carefully in your actions and words. Adonis has a way of knowing.”
She steps closer, her voice dropping to an almost conspiratorial whisper. “He possesses the ability to sense intentions and delve into thoughts.”
Great. Fucking great.
Adonis absolutely knows how I was feeling earlier, and I’m not sure what to think about that.
“Oh, and Dani,” Amelia whispers as she’s about to walk out, “Don’t try to leave. It won’t work and you’ll just piss them off.”
I smile and nod. Amelia leaves and closes the door behind me.
Yeah, fuck that. I’m leaving.
Chapter 9
Dani
I wait a few tense minutes, listening intently for any sign of Amelia’s departure. Once the silence feels thick enough to break, I bolt toward the door, my heart racing with anticipation.
As I grasp the doorknob, I twist it desperately, but it won’t budge—it feels as solid as the walls surrounding me.
I apply more force, pulling and twisting with all my strength, but the stubborn door remains firmly shut, taunting my escape attempts. Frustration wells up inside me as I realize I am trapped.
Did they lock me in this fucking room?!
“Ugh! Let. Me. Out!” I bang loudly on the door.
I need to call Jules, she will help me out of this mess. Hopefully she can track me because I have no fucking idea where I am right now.
I rush to the side of the bed, grab my bag, and pull out my phone.
No missed calls. I guess that’s good. Looks like I won’t be getting fired since I didn’t get called into work.
I quickly call Jules. My heart is racing.
After three rings, she picks up, “Dani! Hey, babe, what’s going on? Want to get drunk tonight? I have some news to share with you!”
“Listen, Jules, I’ve been—”
Suddenly, the door slams open, and a very angry, very shirtless, and very tattooed, Adonis walks in. His loose-fitting shorts hang low on his hips, showcasing his ‘V.’ His athletic physique is on full display, and the definition of his muscles is striking and impressive. Tattoos cover both of his arms, one hand, and his entire chest.
Broad shoulders taper down into a narrow waist, showing off the sculpted lines of his abs—each one a testament to his immortality. His biceps ripple as he clenches his fists, the veins tracing the contours of his arms, revealing an intensity that matches his expression. Powerful legs extend from his strong calves to his athletic thighs, emphasizing his strength.
Yup. I’m screwed.
I hold the phone to my ear, almost forgetting why I called Jules in the first place.
Adonis’ jaw ticks.
“Everything okay, Dani? You seem super quiet.” Jules asks, worry now in her tone.
“Hang up the fucking phone right now, or you’ll be sorry, Dani.”
I give him my best glare.
Before I can utter the words quickly to Jules that I’ve been kidnapped, something changes.
I… I can’t say the words. It’s like my feelings have been changed by a spell.
