She laughed, a slightly hysterical sound. “That’s what I’m saying. I do love you.”

“That is very good news, because I love you, too.”

He pulled her into his arms and kissed her and she felt how solid he was. How real.

She pulled away. “I thought you were maybe too scarred to love again, after you fell for that woman and she didn’t love you back.”

He laughed, low and sexy. “That woman was you.”

Her mouth fell open in shock. “Me?”

“Sure. I thought you guessed. I’ve been in love with you probably since the first moment I saw you.”

“No! Not love at first sight?”

“Sucks, doesn’t it?”

“But we’re scientists, we don’t believe in–”

“Magic? I think maybe I do.”

He kissed her again, and she thought maybe she believed in magic, too.
