Bear snarled.
“Just because you have your mate doesn’t mean mating and bonding her can fix her. You need to learn to trust people, trust me!” Bones shouted.
Bear’s hair was turning to fur. My body reacted as well as I stood in front of him. My lip curled, my front teeth lengthened, and I felt my mouth expand until I jumped in front of Bear and right in front of Bones.
I took in a breath and let out a roar so loud the other people in the room took a step back, their eyes wide with shock. Hawke grabbed Delilah, forcing her behind him. Grim smirked, holding Journey by his side as she smiled along with him.
I continued to roar, letting out a torrent of frustration and agitation.
Bones stumbled backward, bumping into Hawke, who helped him stand back up.
Once I calmed, my face contorted back to its original form. I patted my cheeks and mouth and felt my teeth still had little points.
“Oh dear, I’m sorry,” I whispered, turned around, and buried my face into Bear’s chest.
It took him several moments before he wrapped his arms around me and whispered in my ear. “That… was unbelievably sexy, baby.”
“Hell yeah, that was fucking awesome!” Anaki shouted from the door.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Bear
Ididn’tcareifmy cock was about to split my jeans open. My mate was unbelievably hot when she was angry.
My usually shy, tiny little bee took charge and snapped at a male. Some may find it emasculating, but fuck, I wanted to throw her on the damn table and rut her there.
I pulled her closer, pushing her ass into my erection. “See how you make me feel?”
Nadia groaned and shook her head. “I didn’t mean to do that. It just came out.”
“You shouldn’t be shy about your feelings and who you are becoming,” Tajah said as she put down her bag. “The bond you solidified earlier today will work quickly, especially since you already have the blood of a supernatural working through you.”
I lifted my head where I was pressing soft kisses into my mate’s hair. “What will become of her since she is part fae?”
This question I knew bothered my mate. What would she become? Would she remain part of her fae heritage and not accept a bear spirit? We are entering unfamiliar territory regarding humans as mates, and now we have to worry about the genetics of halflings.
Tajah shrugged her shoulders. “Your guess is as good as mine. However”—she traced her lips with her long fingernail—“I cannot sense any fae genetics in her at all. If she hadn’t had the dream of her past and her appetite for fresh greens, we would have never known. Her sensitivity to hearing, we could have written that off as psychological from being in solitary confinement.”
Everyone agreed, nodding.
“With that act of aggression we just witnessed.” Tajah smiled. “I would say we have a bear overpowering fae genetics.”
Nadia stopped squeezing me and turned to see everyone looking at her. She blushed and touched her teeth once again, finding them dull.
If my mate continued to be fae and half-human, I would still love her. If she became a full fae, I would have never cared. I just wanted her soul. Interracial species and same-sex pairings exist now. We have that proven with Tajah and Beretta, a panther shifter.
Journey stepped forward, Grim pressed up against her backside. He never lets her go far, and I would be the same with my mate. Journey was but three feet away, and it was unsettling having anyone near my mate, but I knew Journey would have the answers we sought.
Journey was the direct line to the Moon Goddess of pairings, and I believed with all my being she would help us where we needed it most.
“Hi, we haven’t officially talked yet, but I’m Journey.” Journey gave a little wave, forgoing the handshake. She had learned since coming to our world that touching freshly paired mates was not wise.
Nadia waved back, their interaction almost comical. Journey had always been quiet as well, but she spoke loudly and often to put people in their place when the goddess needed her to.
“I hope to become good friends, and I know you are really nervous…” Journey paused and then chuckled. “About everything.”
Nadia laughed, too, and my heart squeezed tight in my chest.
