My grizzly hated it when someone touched our food, let alone our mates.
“Fuckin’ hell!” He pulled away, shaking his fingers.
Nadia grunted, near silent, grabbing my fingers and shaking her head. She pointed to Anaki.
Ah, at least she wasn’t afraid to tell me no.
“Sorry,” I grunted and grabbed the sandwich from the plate, easing it into her mouth. She stared at me while I held it there and tentatively took a bite.
“How is it?” Anaki leaned over, and I nearly punched him in the face.
“Leave!” I snarled. “You got to see her. Now leave!”
“But I want to make friends! She’s so pretty.” Anaki fluttered his long dragon lashes. “I can’t wait to take both of your pictures and hang them on my wall.”
He sounds creepy as fuck right now.
“Mine.” I stood from the bed and hovered over him. I stalked toward him. He backed away closer to the door, and my hand reached out to strangle him just as I did Bones.
“N-nh!”
I darted my head behind me, listening to the pitiful sound. Nadia was waving her hand, her face full of terror. My shoulders slumped, and I glared at Anaki. “Leave. You are lucky she’s here to save your hide.”
Anaki scoffed and opened the door. “Thanks, little miss. I’ll bring you extra sweets next time!” He shut the door before I had the chance to swat him on the head.
Nadia leaned back on the headboard and sighed, wiping her hand down her face.
Yes, she has me wrapped around her tiny little finger.
She ate the rest of her meal in silence. It wasn’t awkward; it was peaceful as she ate. Nadia took every bite I gave her, and I think she ate more than her stomach allowed. Once we got to the cake, she looked longingly at it but shook her head when I tried to feed her.
“No because you don’t want to eat sugar or because you are full?” I raised an eyebrow.
She raised her hand, showing off her second finger, and rubbed her stomach. I cleared the tray away, then removed the crumbs from the bed. I motioned for her to lie down and had her head rest peacefully on the blankets.
“You need rest. Do you need medicine for sleep?”
She shook her head, her eyes glassy. Was she going to cry? Fuck, I couldn’t handle my mate crying. What did I do if she cried?
I swallowed, rubbed my hand down my face, and before I could ask her if she was going to cry, her eyes shut, and tiny snores came from her body.
Oh, thank fuck.
“The only good thing about her not talking is, you can’t fuck up in the communication department,” Locke says, leaning on the door.
It’s two in the morning, and I can’t sleep. Nadia slept right through dinner, and I didn’t have the heart to wake her up to feed her. Bones said she would wake up on her own now that she was eating. The meal she ate earlier was heavier than what he fed her through a tube, so she should be fine.
I grunted, keeping my arms crossed as I sat in the chair. I was as close as I could get to her without being in bed, curled up and around her when she was completely unconscious for the week.
I hated it. I hated not being in bed with her, but it was strongly advised that I didn’t. She had my blankets, my scent tucked up around her, but it wasn’t enough. I wanted her to have my heat, bury my nose in her hair, take in her scent, and cradle her tiny body against me. I could regulate her body temperature much better that way.
“I guess,” I grumbled.
Locke fiddled with his lighter. “Come out here. Need to talk to you.”
It wasn’t a request, and after my display earlier, it was best I yield. Especially since I know I would kick his ass if he tried to be a dick and come between my mate and me later. I got up from the chair, watching my mate as I strode out the door. I cracked the door, just in case, to monitor her and wait for Locke to talk to me.
“You really need to put a shirt on.” Locke eyed me while he flicked his lighter on and off.
