Shane walks slowly towards me, his eyes never leaving mine. I can see the darkness in them, the hunger and the thirst for power. The power over my mind, to kill me.

Shane chuckled a low and menacing sound that sent shivers down my spine. He leaned in closer, his breath hot against my ear.

“I’m not going to let you go,” he rasped. “Your mind is mine, and I will fulfill my purpose.”

I jerked away. His cackle echoed in the darkness of the room.

“You haven’t killed me yet. You’ve just tormented me for years, but you don’t have the power to kill me,” I yelled.

The nightmare turned around, and the body he inhabited melted. Skin, muscle, bone—it all dripped to the floor. I screamed, watching it drip, and tried to push my chair away.

The nightmare floated toward me. The dark silhouette the same as it was when he hovered over me. I could wake myself in Bear’s bed. The nightmare demon’s dark fangs hovered dangerously close to me. “It may have taken me time.” He tilted his head quickly like a buzzard finding the perfect spot to sink his beak into dead flesh. “But in this final dream I will make sure not to let you go. I will take you with me.”

“T-take me where?”

“To the depths of hell, of course.” He smiled manically. “Where I will continue to torture you and the rest of the souls I have acquired for all of eternity.”

A bright light shone above us. My body sank in relief, feeling its warmth. Tajah and Bram were here, just like the times before.

The nightmare cried out, shielding himself from the brightness of the light. I moved my body, wishing for the ropes to fall and immediately they did so.

“No, they won’t, not this time!” The nightmare demon grabbed hold of my arm, its claws sinking deep into the flesh.

“I’m done, I’m done, I’m done!” I chanted to escape the dream, to wake up from this awful nightmare.

The demon hissed until the light was so bright that its shadow faded into darkness, but his hand still remained.

I screamed, shaking and pulling at his hand until I felt it let go. I squeezed my eyes shut tightly and opened them, ready to see Bear and my friends on the other side. Instead, darkness was still surrounding me when I opened my eyes.

I grunted, trying to move because my arms were bound and my head locked by an immovable force.

“It’s me, baby, it’s me!” Bear let go and cupped my face. Bear pulled back and stared down at me. “You were screaming, crying. Fuck, I couldn’t take it. I had to hold you.”

Bear was sitting on the table. It was bowed, getting ready to fall in on itself, but he was sitting on it, anyway. Tajah and Bram were wrestling on the floor, holding onto a black jar, and they both screamed orders at each other.

“You do the locking spell!” Tajah snapped at Bram.

“No, you, you are stronger than I am!” he replied.

A deep purple light surrounded the bottle, casting an eerie, magical glow in the room that illuminated Tajah and Bram as they continued to roll on the floor.

The purple light pulsated in the darkness like a living thing. It seemed to swirl around the bottle, enveloping it in an ethereal glow. The light illuminated Tajah and Bram as they struggled to control it, casting an eerie shadow across the room.

The bottle was small, encased in the purple light that glowed around it. It hummed and vibrated as Tajah slammed her hand over it, the light fading away afterwards.

“There it’s done,” Tajah said breathlessly.

I panted. “What’s done?”

Bear pressed a tender kiss to my sweaty forehead. “All of it’s done. The demon is out, baby, no more nightmares.”

I closed my eyes and pressed my forehead to his chest. He chuckled and held me close to his body.

The rest of the room hugged each other except for Anaki, who came in and gave both Bear and me a hug.

“This is amazing. I knew you could do it, little miss. Now you get your surprise!”

“Anaki,” Bear growled. “Let her recover first.”
